These two make regular sightings off the coast of Florida. When staying at Misty Shores during migration months, keep a look out! They should be heading north now.

Divers in The Bahamas spotted two right whales! 😲

On April 15, Captain Isaac Ellis from Neal Watson’s Bimini Scuba Center was leading a dolphin-watching tour off Bimini when the group encountered the right whales. The extremely unusual sighting marks the first time the species has been seen in this country!

Videos of the sighting were shared with the Bahamas Marine Mammal Research Organization, who reached out to the Aquarium. Scientists in our Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life identified the right whales as Koala (Catalog #3940) and Curlew (Catalog #4190) using information from the North Atlantic Right Whale Catalog.

Koala and Curlew have also been sighted off South Carolina and the Gulf of Mexico. Where will they go next? 🌍🐳
