Before yellow school buses, there were horse-drawn wagons.

This historic photo shows the Consolidated School at Sauk Centre, Minnesota, with what appear to be early school transportation wagons lined up outside. It’s a little glimpse into what “getting to school” looked like generations ago.

Sauk Centre has always been a place where stories live on, from our historic downtown to the people, places, and photos that remind us how far we’ve come.

We love finding pieces of Sauk Centre’s past and sharing the history that helped shape Minnesota’s Original Main Street. If you love pieces of local history like this, be sure to visit the Sauk Centre History Museum. It’s a great place to explore photos, artifacts, stories, and memories that help preserve the past of Minnesota’s Original Main Street.
