A little perspective on what we share the Savannah River with while hunting for shark teeth. 🚢

The COSCO SHIPPING PEONY is 1,201 feet long and 157 feet wide—more than four football fields in length (146,588 metric tons deadweight with the capacity for approximately 13,800 containers).

It’s an incredible sight, but a ship this size is also a serious reminder that the Savannah River is an active commercial waterway. And when these vessels pass, the danger isn’t just for boats on the river. The wakes and shifting water can create hazardous conditions along the riverbanks, too.

There’s beach day… and then there’s a Drifter beach day.

When the tide drops and the sand starts giving up its secrets, you’ll find us stopping for whatever catches the eye. Because around here, there’s always something worth photographing.

Drift a little farther off the beaten path and you might find a beach that looks a whole lot like this: untouched, wild, and full of stories written in sand, driftwood, and fossils.

Savannah’s coastline has a few surprises tucked away. You just have to go looking.
