The Green-Meldrim House is offering special evening holiday tours starting tonight. This house played a significant role in the Civil War as Gen. Sherman made this his headquarters in Savannah in his "March to the Sea." You can actually step into the room where he wrote the famous telegram sent on December 22, 1864, to President Lincoln, "To His Excellency President Lincoln, I beg to present you as a Christmas gift the city of Savannah, with one hundred and fifty heavy guns and plenty of ammunition, also about twenty-five thousand bales of cotton.”
