The OCS 8th Grade Marine Science class completed a culminating project for their Year Two NOAA Ocean Guardian School certification. Their project is a website with interviews, maps, photos, graphs, and information that trace oyster use across the 5,000-year human history of the Georgia coast. 🌎 Earth Day is every day for these students ...

Through the marine science program he started at Oglethorpe Charter School (Official), teacher Ben Wells is helping lead a new generation to ensure our beautiful coasts and the creatures that inhabit them are here for many centuries to come. Sixth graders are required to take oceanography, seventh graders have the option to take biology and statistics, while eighth graders have barrier island ecology. Each year, as part of the curriculum, Wells takes a select group of students on a series of field trips around coastal Georgia.

With the help of Lindsay Patterson, Georgia Aquarium education programs manager and regional coordinator, Wells and his students have established Oglethorpe Charter as the first Ocean Guardian School in Georgia for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

It may be April Fools’ Day but no jokes here! We just couldn’t wait any longer…the new Center is now open as of today! We invite you to come experience a unique “Behind the Scenes” self-guided tour of our new Center and observe staff as they work hard to complete our exhibits. PLEASE NOTE: our exhibits are still very much a work in progress. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage our educators, ask all the questions, learn more about the interworkings of the Center and meet a few of our animal ambassadors. Hours are Thursday through Sunday, 10am-4pm. Admission is $10 per person and children 4 and under are free. Masks required. We cannot wait to see you!🐢🙌🏻
