Florence Martus, Savannah’s "waving girl," watched every ship enter the harbor from Ossabaw Island, keeping a lonely vigil that started in the late 1800s. Officially, she was greeting sailors. Unofficially? Lore says she was watching for a lost lover who promised to return but never did. 👻

Though Florence passed away decades ago, sailors passing the riverfront still report seeing a phantom light swaying in the dark, or a shadowy figure watching from the shore. Some spirits refuse to abandon their post.
