It may have been a chilly day with the sun beginning to set but none of that diminished the incredible beauty of this woodland walk. Absolutely breathtaking!!

If you visit, you may want to bring a coin to make a wish. Not to drop into the water, but to hammer into an old tree stump to make a wish to the woodland fairies. ❤️

Very brief clip of the stairwell that brings you up and back down the Monument. It’s a short clip because it’s very steep, very narrow and spiraled making it precarious as you meet people traveling in the opposite direction.

Views from the top! One thing that is amazing about visiting historic sites in Scotland is there are very few safety measures. No railings or bars to prevent people falling. You need to ’keep your wits about you’ at all times (especially if you’re traveling with littles)!

The view below is where the famous Battle of Stirling Bridge occurred in 1297 where the first Scottish battle for independence took place (made famous by the movie Braveheart).

Many of the historical sights in Scotland are not accessible for people with mobility issues. The William Wallace Monument is a steep 10 minute climb to get to the monument from the parking lot (there is also a shuttle to bring you up). And if you want to see beyond the gift shop and cafe… be prepared to climb a narrow spiral staircase 246 steps to the top!

There is only one way up and the same way down so it’s a bit cramped at times when people are moving in both directions. There are 2 exhibits to break up the climb (and catch your breath as well as stop the room from spinning). One of these exhibits showcases William Wallace’s actual sword! That was pretty incredible to see.

I’ll share some of the views from the top in another post. This is definitely a must-see if you’re venturing through Stirling.

It was hard to leave Manchester behind! The people were so lovely - it’s not often you’re called ‘love’ as an adult. But our journey onward brought us to the beauty and history of Stirling Castle which was nothing short of magical. We stood in the exact location where Mary Queen of Scots was coronated at 9 months of age and witnessed our own family crest embedded in stained glass in the great hall! Even our teenagers were a wee bit impressed. 😁

It definitely pays to get to these historic sights early - no one is around and you can get some incredible pictures!

No trip is complete without a few surprises along the way… our Scotland adventure included a detour to Manchester, England to see our first premier league football match at Old Trafford! What could make it better?? Discovering the opposing team is staying at our hotel and chatting with the head coach, team manager and one of the players! Unreal start to a pretty fabulous experience!

After years of no travel and cancellations due to a worldwide pandemic, I was finally able to corral my family on a trip to Scotland (with a brief stop to see a premier league football match along the way)! I’ll be sharing some highlights in the coming days.

Travel is alive and well - although a bit different now. And, yes I’m still booking Disney, Europe and all-inclusive vacations for my travel guests. 😁

I've been busy booking WDW and Universal for many families this year... but, today some of my guests depart for this wonderful coastal escape to ! It's my first booking since the pandemic shutdown. I'm beyond excited for them!! They'll enjoy a quintessential Italy experience in with an excursion to Mt. Etna, a local cooking class, a sunset cruise and all that the area has to offer!
