During last night’s City Council meeting, the Scottsboro Fire Department proudly presented Dash Duncan with a Fire Safety Hero Award.

Dash was recognized for his quick action after noticing smoke in a bathroom at Nelson Primary School and immediately alerting a teacher. Because he spoke up right away, the situation was able to be handled quickly and safely.

His awareness and courage are a great reminder that even small actions can make a big difference. We are proud to recognize Dash for helping protect his school and fellow students!

Congratulations, Dash, and thank you for being a hero! 🚒

🔧🌟 Employee Spotlight: Kendall Holland 🌟🔧

Meet Kendall Holland, one of our skilled Senior Master Mechanics with the City of Scottsboro! Kendall plays a vital role in keeping our city vehicles running smoothly by diagnosing issues and performing the repairs needed to keep everything on the road and operating safely.

Kendall has been with the city for two years, but his journey toward becoming a mechanic started back in high school. His early passion for the trade has grown into a career built on hard work, skill, and dedication.

A typical day for Kendall keeps him busy in the Vehicle Maintenance Department. He starts by checking in vehicles that need service, then gets to work tackling repairs and maintenance tasks to keep the fleet in top shape.

When asked what he enjoys most about his job, Kendall quickly points to his coworkers. It’s clear there’s a strong sense of camaraderie in the shop, filled with laughter and teamwork. He also shared how much he appreciates his department head, Mike Congo, noting that he truly looks out for the team and makes them feel valued.

Originally attending school in Pisgah, Kendall now lives in Rainsville. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, especially his 3-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son. He’s also recently taken on an exciting new venture—owning a food truck! In his spare time, you can find him serving up BBQ at local festivals.

Kendall’s Favorites:
🎥 Movie: Shawshank Redemption
🎶 Music: Country
🍫 Candy: Reese’s
🎨 Color: Blue
🏈 Team: Auburn

We’re grateful for Kendall’s hard work, positive attitude, and the care he puts into keeping our city moving every day. 💙🚗

Last week, we were proud to celebrate our local libraries and recognize the important role they play in our community every day!

Libraries provide opportunities for lifelong learning, access to technology, and resources that support job seekers, students, small businesses, and families. They are inclusive spaces where everyone—regardless of background—can connect, learn, and grow.

Our libraries continue to adapt to meet the needs of our community, offering diverse programs, expanding collections, and building strong partnerships that benefit all residents.

We thank our librarians and library staff for their dedication and the lasting impact they make in Scottsboro. If you didn’t get a chance to visit during National Library Week, we encourage you to stop by your local library and explore all it has to offer!📚
