🌿 A Hidden Garden Worth Discovering This Season 🌿

Tucked within Jackson County Park, the Vernon Bush Garden Trail offers one of the most unique and biodiverse outdoor experiences in Alabama.

With nearly 700 plant species, this trail showcases an incredible cross section of native and non native plant life, including rare S1 species and distinctive finds like large flower verbena. Mature azaleas, many more than 30 years old, continue to add color to the landscape as the season transitions into May.

What truly sets this trail apart is its dynamic forest structure, with a rich canopy, mid story, and understory that creates a constantly evolving experience. Visitors often note that the trail looks and feels different every few weeks, offering something new with each visit, from changing blooms to shifting colors and fragrances.

Peaceful, immersive, and free to explore, the Vernon Bush Garden Trail remains one of Jackson County’s best kept secrets.

If you have not experienced it yet, now is a beautiful time to take a walk and see what makes this place so special.

A meaningful new chapter is taking shape at The Scottsboro Boys Museum , deepening the commitment to preserving and sharing an essential story of injustice, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

“This humble boxcar will soon be one of the most exciting museum exhibits in the south. With all-star fabricators and media folk, we will transform the interior into an amazing, immersive, multisensory space. It will tell the Scottsboro story in way that will appeal to audiences of all ages.” Dr. Thomas Reidy, Executive Director, The Scottsboro Boys Museum

As part of the U.S. Civil Rights Trail, this powerful addition will offer visitors a moving and immersive way to reflect on a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, one that helped shape the broader struggle for civil rights in America.

From all of us at Jackson County Tourism, we are honored to support this important work. We invite you to visit, to learn, and to reflect as we continue to tell stories that matter, stories that inspire understanding, remembrance, and hope for future generations.

Pizza, but make it an experience 🍕

At Courtyard Cucina, it is not just about great pizza, it is about the experience. Their new hands on field trip gives kids the chance to become chefs for the day, complete with a chef hat and the fun of creating their own pizza from scratch. It is interactive, creative, and one they will not forget.

And yes… the pizza lives up to the experience! Fresh, handcrafted pizzas made with quality ingredients and fired to perfection in their brick oven.

Whether you are planning a group outing or just craving a really good pizza night, this locally owned spot is serving up more than a meal, it is something to experience.
