Kiyah E. and Alicia M., Chicago, kicked off their weekend by tackling the ultimate morning wake-up call on the highest peak in Phoenix.

Led by Doug Mangum, adventure guide, Mad Desert Trekking, on an early start, this crew hauled up the steep railed sections and scrambled through a boulder field on Echo Canyon Trail before dropping into the shadows of Secret Cave, June 6, 2026.

Just hours after landing in Phoenix for the first time, Caroline C., Philadelphia, Penn., encountered an Arizona bark scorpion, made an offering to a tree of heart-shaped rocks and experienced the herbal fragrance of the volatile oils from the leaves of a creosote plant. It was an Arizona simultaneous double-feature with a spectacular setting sun and a rising rare blue moon, during a guided hike to Sunset Peak, Phoenix Mountains Preserve, May 31, 2026.

Caroline, attorney, Office of Immigrate Affairs, City of Philadelphia, had arrived in Arizona for a conference and work tour of cities in the Phoenix Metro Area, quickly getting acquainted with the Sonoran Desert on the Stunning Sunset Guided Hiking Adventure in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, May 31, 2026.
