There’s something quietly powerful about a rancher, a contractor, a mayor, a trail builder, a hunter, an angler, a veteran—and a few desert wanderers—walking the halls of Washington together. We showed up not as partisans, but as stewards, united by the simple idea that our national monuments and public lands reflect who we are. From working landscapes to wild canyons, these places shape our identity as much as they shape our horizon.

If you care about them, say so. A quick call or note to your elected officials truly does count.

On this day in 1908, Theodore Roosevelt used a young but powerful idea—the Antiquities Act—to protect something vast, irreplaceable, and already under pressure: the Grand Canyon.

Arizona has always been out front. Three of the first ten National Monuments were here, and today no state has more. That’s not an accident. Our landscapes are layered—geologically, culturally, historically. Petroglyphs, pueblos, sacred sites, migration corridors, working lands. Places that tell long stories, if we listen.

The Antiquities Act isn’t loud. It doesn’t ask for perfection. It simply pauses the rush—long enough to say this matters. In the case of the Grand Canyon, that pause mattered enough to hold the line against mining and development until it became a national park in 1919.

More than a century later, the lesson still holds: protecting places early is often the wisest, most economical choice we make. Arizona’s identity—past, present, and future—is written on the land. Keeping those pages intact is not about nostalgia. It’s about stewardship.

January 11, 1908. A good day.

Don't gut our Public Lands, communities want balance.

As an organization passionate about public lands and their use, this is important.

For more than 40 years, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) prioritized drilling, mining, and other resource extraction activities — often at minimal cost to industry. No royalties. Taxpayer-subsidized infrastructure. And when the mines close, it's the public that frequently pays for the cleanup.

In 2024, after decades of pressure from citizens, tribes, scientists, and small businesses, the BLM finally adopted the Public Lands Rule — recognizing that conservation, access, wildlife, and cultural heritage deserve equal footing with extraction.

Now, that progress is under threat. The administration has proposed eliminating the rule, returning 245 million acres nationwide — including more than 11 million acres in Arizona — to unchecked development.

People want our elected officials to do more to protect our Public Lands. Tens of thousands of people already spoke up for these places — to protect access, wildlife corridors, and Arizona's cultural heartbeat. Now it's our turn again.

Comment deadline: November 10.

One of the most important protections for Arizona’s wild lands is under review—and most people don’t even know it exists.

The Roadless Rule quietly protects nearly 58 million acres of backcountry forests across the U.S.—including vital places like Arizona's Sierra Ancha Mountains, the key areas on the Verde River, and remote habitat corridors.

This rule prevents road-building in undeveloped forest areas. That means:
✅ Clean water from natural watersheds
✅ Vital space for wildlife
✅ Reduced wildfire risk
✅ Solitude for hikers, paddlers, and climbers

The Forest Service is now collecting public input. If you’ve ever marveled at the quiet beauty of wild places now it the time to speak up.

August 8, 2023—Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni—Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument—came to life.

From bighorn sheep perched on sheer cliffs to millennia‑old petroglyphs carved by Indigenous peoples, this landscape is a living archive of culture and biodiversity. Protecting it safeguards not only canyon vistas but also migration corridors, fragile springs, and stories carried forward through ceremony and song. # MonumentsforAll

🚨 14 MILLION ACRES in ARIZONA of our public lands are flagged for possible sale under a Senate budget plan.

Our public lands would be used to fund tax cuts for billionaires and private equity. It’s a land grab disguised as legislation.

These are OUR lands — and they are NOT FOR SALE.
