Cynthia Dial Travel Writer San Diego is my city. America is my country. The world is my home. I say my office is the world, and in actuality, it is.

Hi, I'm a wife, mother, journalist and addict - a travel addict - because for me, travel is like breathing, I can’t live without it. As a travel journalist I’ve visited all seven continents, 60 countries, countless cities and innumerable countrysides, where I’ve attempted Argentina’s tango, canoed in the Amazon and ridden a Harley-Davidson throughout Melbourne, all for a good story. Follow me arou

nd the corner and around the world as I share the ins, the outs, the good, the bad, the funny, the sad – all pieces of the traveling puzzle.

Tips for the island of St Maarten/St. Martin.
- Enjoy the planes flying over the beach experience.
- Hire a taxi for a multi-hour island (my rec: Widson, Sunshine Taxi Service), with a stop at Cynthia's casual eatery at the Lolo in Grand Case.
- Take advantage of the duty free/tax free shopping. Parisian style fashion in St. Martin's town of Marigot (escargot too). But for jewelry, it's St. Maarten near - a long established family operation JN Jewelers (ask for owner Sam).
- For a special meal, don't miss an evening at the Bamboo House, located high on a hill overlooking the island.
- Stay in adults-only and its butler service (give Ranjeet a big hug from me and )
- Enjoy the resort's signature restaurant, Azul, whenever you can and request Maddie or Jonathan (aka Smiley) as your server.
- Finally, go, just go!

Travel. It's all about people and food, isn't it? And covered both bases - from our butlers (Ranger, Dane and V) and the spa's top-notch masseuse, Lisa, to its breakfast, lunch and dinner at a variety of restaurants (it's all-inclusive, you know), color us content.

While it's two destinations (actually two countries), the Caribbean island of St. Maarten/St. Martin serves up Dutch and French experiences. My perfect perch from which to sample it all was located adjacent to the airport's flight path, which created endless entertainment, photo opps and forever excitement of over-the-beach landings and takeoffs - all while cocooned within the luxury of the Sonesta property.

What to do when you only have a few hours in ? My solution: Walk from my Union Square hotel up and down Nob and Russian Hills - past such treasured landmarks as , the Transamerica Pyramid, Coit Tower, Lombard Street, the Golden Gate Bridge (and my long ago apartment on Clay and Leavenworth) - all for an Irish coffee at the . Then a cable car ride back to Union Square to make my flight home.

Sneak preview. Have you ever dreamed of flying to Paris, simply for dinner? Well, for me it wasn't Paris but San Francisco for a meal prepared by Master Chefs of France. The occasion was the introduction of La Table par Maitres Cuisiniers de France, the first and only restaurant at sea to be launched with the prestigious approval of the revered institution of French gastronomy (debuting aboard Oceania Sonata in 2027). Beginning with cherry gazpacho, here's our multi-course extravaganza, paired with wines, of course.

Calling all travelers. A special shoutout to : What happened to you? A long time fav airline during my multi-year career as a travel journalist, what is necessary to speak to a real live person these days? After 3 days of trying to reach someone - 2 days of never receiving a promised call back and now being on hold almost 2 hours but as on-hold music stopped playing 39 min ago, I fear I've been disconnected. Be my hero with a tip please.

From my Savannah home base, The Alida Hotel, to the Savannah Convention Center via a short, complimentary ferry ride, this Southern city is great for meetings too. Think a custom designed doorway allowing crop-dusting aircraft inside the exhibit hall (aka National Agricultural Aviation Association). So accommodating, so welcoming, this is Savannah.
