Everyone’s crammed into the same hotspots, fighting for the best photo angles and dinner reservations. But you? You’re sipping wine at a quiet seaside café, wandering cobblestone streets all to yourself.
Let’s talk about my favorite spots this year that’ll give you that European summer, but without the overpriced cocktails and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds.
➡️ Tavira, Portugal
If the Algarve is on your radar but the packed beaches aren’t, Tavira is your spot. It’s got all the euro charm — cobblestone streets, a medieval castle, flamingos (!) in the salt marshes, and quiet, golden-sand beaches like Praia do Barril. Plus, your budget will go so much further here than in the typical Algarve hotspots.
➡️ Kotor, Montenegro
While everyone flocks to Dubrovnik, Kotor quietly sits on one of the most stunning bays in Europe. Picture dramatic mountain backdrops, winding medieval streets, and scenic hikes that reward you with jaw-dropping views over the Bay of Kotor, without the Game of Thrones crowds. Bonus: it’s super affordable compared to Croatia.
➡️ Castellina in Chianti, Italy
Everyone rushes to Florence and Siena, but Castellina in Chianti is one of those hilltop towns where you can still enjoy a glass of wine without battling selfie sticks. Surrounded by rolling vineyards, medieval walls, and some of the best Tuscan food you’ll ever eat, it’s a quiet little escape in the heart of Chianti wine country.
➡️ Šibenik, Croatia
Dubrovnik might get all the attention, but Šibenik? So underrated. Šibenik has a thriving food scene, with fresh seafood and local wines that rival its more famous neighbors. Plus, it’s the perfect base for taking a boat trip through Krka National Park, where you can actually swim under waterfalls.
Which one’s calling your name this summer? Let me know in the comments! ⬇️
