Whale watching is a favorite of all our guests at Sea Ranch Abalone Bay. This is especially true when spotted spouting, spy-hopping, and lob-tailing from the comfort of of the couch.

"Beyond being a great place for dog lovers, it is located right on the bluff trail, has great views of the ocean for whale watching, and has a very well equipped kitchen with just about anything you need while staying there."

"Abalone Bay is perfect for watching whales as they make their journey up and down the coast. This time we saw several groups of whales as we walked the bluff trail. But even more exciting was that when we returned to the house we were able to watch whales spouting and waving their tales 100’s of times from the living room. This continued for hours until the sunset."

"The views were spectacular and we saw whales, one of which swam right by us on the shoreline."

"The well-equipped house was in a great location for whale watching and walking to beaches."

The migration of these marvelous marine mammals put on quite a show as they make their way up and down the coast throughout the year.

Included in the seasonal parade:
Blue Whales: June - October�
Occasionally seen from the shore in summer and early fall, these gentle giants produce a tall spout.

Gray Whales: November to February, they migrate south to Baja. There, the pregnant females give birth. Starting in February and March, the whales migrate back north to Alaska with their newborn calves.

Humpback Whales: April - November�Humpback Whales spend most of their time further offshore than the Gray Whale but can be seen fluking, spy-hopping, and breaching!
