International Music Day

Music occurs within nature and humans have been recreating it probably since the beginning of time, as singing or humming seems to be a natural part of human development. Babies can even begin to sing as early as three months old!

While music has its unique attributes based on the culture and area of the world it comes from, it is a human activity that is exclusive to the human race and part of every culture in the world. Music unites human beings!

With that in mind, in 1949, the International Music Council was created as an associate organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Its purpose was to express solidarity between human beings in the global music ecosystem. Connecting, encouraging and providing access for musicians around the world, this organization started International Music Day

Initiated in 1973 by the 15th General Assembly of the International Music Council, the first International Music Day was celebrated in 1975. The intention behind the day was to promote musical art among all sectors of society as well as applying the UNESCO ideas of peace and friendship among people.
Many methods of teaching music have been embraced all over the world, some of these specific to certain cultures. In Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and other places, children are often taught different versions of music in schools including singing and the playing of instruments such as recorders or percussion like drums and bells.

Whether a professional musician or novice, whether an opera singer or someone who really can’t carry a tune, International Music Day encourages people all over the globe to join in with five goals:

To allow children and adults to express themselves freely through music.
To give opportunities for children and adults to learn musical skills and languages.
To provide access to musical involvement for all.
To allow musical artists to develop and communicate through media and using proper facilities.
For musical artists to obtain recognition and fair remuneration for their work.

Senior Citizen Day

You have probably been told many times before that you need to respect your elders. In fact, this is a phrase that most children hear throughout their lives! Well, Senior Citizen Day is all about respecting your elders. It is about honoring those people who have been on this earth longer than we have. Getting old is not easy. You have been independent your whole life, and then you feel this being stripped away from you. It can be very difficult to deal with, and that is why we all need to make sure that we are there for our grandparents and older people in general. That’s what this day celebrates, and it’s special to be a part of it.
After all, seniors bring so much to the world! They offer their experience, their wisdom, and their knowledge.
Our elderly friends and family have a lifetime’s worth of incredible experiences and tales to share with us. For centuries, cultures across the globe have looked to older people in the communities in order to provide them with knowledge and wisdom. In times of trouble or when we need some advice and direction, we can always rely on older people to impart their great wisdom on us.
However, while our grandparents have us to turn to and rely on to keep those smiles on their faces, it is important to recognize that there are a lot of seniors who are incredibly lonely. This is why it is important to pay tribute to all seniors on this day. There are a lot of charities out there that are designed to help combat loneliness in older people, so why not give them some of your time?

"A Thought at the Dock"

It started with a breeze.

Not the kind that rustles papers or cools your skin, but the kind that carries possibility. As Mia stood at the edge of the Seattle waterfront, watching the cruise ship dock like a floating city, They felt something stir inside, a quiet nudge, a whisper of adventure.

They had never taken a cruise before. Their life had been a steady rhythm of work, errands, and routines. But something about the music drifting from the ship soft jazz notes mingling with the sound of gulls made them pause. It wasn’t just a vacation the couple was thinking about. It was escape. Renewal. A chance to drift away from the familiar and into something unknown.

Bot imagined themselves aboard, sipping coffee on the deck as the sun rose over the Pacific, dancing under stars to live jazz, meeting strangers who might become friends. They pictured islands, laughter, and the kind of silence that only comes when the sea surrounds you.

It was just a thought. But sometimes, thoughts are the beginning of everything.
