Happy Earth Day! Did you know that Abraham Lincoln was the first president to set aside land for wilderness preservation and public use? On June 30, 1864 he signs the Yosemite Grant Act which states that "the premises shall be held for public use, resort, and recreation" and "shall be inalienable for all time." This act lays the foundation for the National Park System.
