They harken back to a day before cars, when the well-to-do would have places specifically for their guests to tie up there horses and carriages when they came to visit. The hitching posts are no longer a necessary status symbol for the upper crust, but they still remain on street corners, or in front of the older homes and buildings throughout the district.
