Here is Mrs. Dudley Cross, a Tea introduced in 1907 by Paul. Pale yellow tinted crimson, especially in cool weather; often in fall the flowers glaze over with crimson-pink. A later Tea with the size and substance of the Cochet group of roses, Mrs. Dudley cross is one of the most vigorous Tea roses, and its thornlessness is much admired. Fragrant.

Our rose for today is Comtesse Des Barbatane, a Bourbon introduced in 1858 by Guillot pere & Clement. Large flowers of ivory blush shaded deeper, very fragrant. This rose is of the Noisette-Bourbon sort, Like Comtesse Rocquigny, and one of the more dramatic in this group.

Here is Mary Rose, an English/Shrub Rose introduced by David Austin in 1983. Our curator Gregg Lowery considers this the "work-horse" of the English Roses, for it will "do" nearly everywhere, making a fine, compact shrub that adds to the garden whether in or out of bloom. Flowers are rose-pink, very double, opening nearly flat, and rather in the style of such great Hybrid Perpetuals as Reine Des Violettes. Fragrant.

Here is Parkjuwel, a Moss introduced by Kordes in 1950. A modern Moss rose that is classed as a shrub by the ARS. A tall upright bush produces multitudes of blossoms in season. Nicely mossed buds are rather modern in shape, but open to full, old-fashioned flowers of rich cerise pink. Moderate fragrance.

This is Plomin, a Floribunda introduced by Tantau in 1951. Tantau's talent for selecting and breeding unusual colors is born out in this rose; semi-double blooms of soft golden peach with wavy form open peach-blush pink and fade to white. Little fragrance.

Our rose for today is Marchesa Boccella, a Hybrid Perpetual introduced in 1842 by Desprez. Pink pompon flowers, rose pink at the centers, densely overlapping with large half-open central buttons. A compact plant full of light green foliage which grows right up the stems to the flowers.

Today's rose is Gros Choux Holland, a Hybrid Bourbon. A heavy dose of China genes encourages Gros Choux Holland to begin flowering long, long before any of the other once-bloomers, its season extending from early April through June. Large, fragrant, double, medium-pink blossoms with fat button eyes.
