Love it when I locate pictures of the people who helped make Magnolia Hotel's history so amazing. This is Texas Ranger, Andrew Nelson Erskine (1826-1862). When he was just seventeen, Erskine joined the Texas Rangers and fought in the battle of Salado Creek. He married Ann Theresa Johnson and had five sons. In 1856, Erskine took over the management of the Magnolia Hotel, its stagecoach stop, a gristmill and a ferry all owned by his father-in-law, Joseph F. Johnson. The ferry became known as Erskine's Ferry. He was also Seguin's county clerk. Sadly he was killed at the battle of Antietam at the young age of 36.

The Magnolia is about to become whole again.
The energy of the hotel should be mind blowing soon with the restoration of the balcony beginning this week!!! I remember how it was when we began our restoration process of the hotel in 2013. It was when they decided to introduce themselves to us one by one. Our spirits have been waiting nearly 100 years to make the Magnolia Hotel whole again!!! Can not wait to see what this stirs up.

Long before the Magnolia Hotel became what it is today, there lived a woman known only as Ms. Pink Rosebud. They said she was elegant… refined… the kind of woman who could walk into a room and make every head turn without saying a word. She was so popular that the owners of the Magnolia hotel reserved a room just for her. A room where she could keep an eye out on her quaint little house directly across the street. Yes she was a lady of the evening, but also a woman with a big heart. She tried to give back, to the churches, to the schools, to the hospitals, but the women of Seguin turned her away. They called it soiled money, yet she called it help. And when Yellow Fever swept through town, others stayed away in fear. Pink rosebud didn’t. She was the one who sat beside the sick children. Held their hands, wiped their foreheads, and stayed when no one else would. And then one day she simply disappeared never to be seen again. Some say she was run out of town. But I like to believe that somewhere along the way, a good man saw her not for what she was called, but for who she truly was….a good woman. So he took her away to a life she deserved. Now Pink Rosebud returned back to a place where she felt safe, the Magnolia Hotel. You’ll know when she does, the room fills with the soft scent of unmistakable sweet roses, and completely unexplainable. And if you’re a certain kind of guest, meaning male, you might feel a quick little pinch out of nowhere. Then a soft laugh follows. Here at the Magnolia hotel we all say the same thing…..“You just got Rosed.” It’s become a bit of a tradition now. Guests say it, tour visitors say it, friends say it and even folks outside the hotel have started using it. So if you ever feel a little pinch when no one’s around, don’t worry. Ms. Rosebud is just saying hello.

We were truly honored to host Katrina Weidman, Heather Taddy, and their producer Jay Milton from her show "Travel the Dead." From the moment they arrived, their kindness and professionalism were unmistakable, but what stood out most was their integrity. Katrina and Heather carry a calm confidence that feels grounded in genuine respect, for the history, for the space, and for the spirits themselves. Their approach is thoughtful, honest, and deeply rooted in a sincere desire to uncover the truth, not just create a moment. In a field where authenticity matters, they are the real deal, and it was a privilege to witness their work firsthand. They are the real deal! Our Ms. Pink Rosebud very much enjoyed their producer, Jay's presence. 🙂

THIS IS NOT A REAL PICTURE!!! But............it does show what's coming soon!!! If you have ever dreamed of staying overnight in our Magnolia Hotel Bed and Breakfast now is the time! Construction on the exterior balcony will begin soon and that means noise!!! Right now the weather is perfect for investigating. Our spirits love this cooler weather!!! They have been very active, especially Itzy. It is also perfect to spend a beautiful quiet time in our gorgeous restored suite. Downtown Central Park (which is just steps away from the Magnolia) is stunning at night. Better hurry, construction will be happening soon.

I can finally tell the world! The Magnolia Hotel had the incredible opportunity to host the wildly popular Sam and Colby, along with their friend Alex. Word spread fast that they were at our Magnolia after they arrived, and before we knew it, a large crowd of excited fans had gathered hoping for a glimpse or a chance to meet them. Jim and I were truly impressed, they were some of the most gracious, kind-hearted young men we’ve had the pleasure of hosting. It was hard not being able to share this beforehand but I totally understand why. We'll let you know when their episode airs!
