Civil War History Comes Alive!

Step Back in Time to 1862!

As we prepare to unveil the highly anticipated Northern Loop of the Old Monterey Trail, we invite you to discover a fascinating piece of McNairy County’s Civil War history!

Stop No. 27 – Hack or Ridge Road (Present-Day Dillon Road)

In the spring of 1862, General William J. Hardee’s Confederate troops marched along this historic route toward the Battle of Shiloh. Their journey carried them through the extensive plantation property of W. F. Moore, near present-day Needmore.

Among those who witnessed this moment in history was Moore’s nine-year-old son, Henry Clay Moore.

But the young boy’s remarkable story did not end there. He would grow up to become a big-game hunter and millionaire, leaving behind a fascinating legacy.

Join us as respected historian Laquita Thomson brings Henry Clay Moore’s extraordinary life and connection to the Old Monterey Trail to light!
