🥂5 Years of Soaking at The Weekender! ✨

Can we talk about a literal "high" point for the cabin? Five years ago today, we pulled off the ultimate Seven Devils stunt. 🏗️💨

Since our deck is 20 feet in the air and the patio doors are too narrow, there was only one way to get our hot tub onto the deck: a massive crane.

We watched our 400lb. tub fly completely over the roof of the cabin and land perfectly on the deck. It took less than 10 minutes in the air, but it’s been the soul of The Weekender ever since.

We have spent countless nights under the stars, we have watched the snow fall from the warmth of the bubbles, and we have loved every minute of this mountain life.

Happy 5th "Tub-iversary" to our favorite spot on the deck! 🌲🔥

~ 5️⃣ YEARS AGO TODAY is the day we closed on, received keys for, and spent our first night in what would eventually become The Weekender. ~

December 6, 2019.

There was always some doubt: Had we made a mistake? What did we do?! There were days I would feel like the place might defeat us. Thankfully those weren't the same days Bryan would feel the same defeat. Many sleepless nights were had.

But five years later, here we stand--hundreds of guests later--with something to show for it. We still pinch ourselves. And still have the occasional restless night.

Our 100th 5-star Airbnb review came recently. Doesn't seem like much to some; but to us, it is so dear. If you haven't yet experienced the magic of The Weekender, ski season cometh soon, and it beckons.

We MIGHT have a gnome problem. Somehow we went from 1 to 7 over the last year, for various reasons. Maybe they're getting to know each other too well? Anyhoo, Thanksgiving--that 'dreadful' holiday that gets in the way of Christmas after Halloween--is finally over, so we can decorate now. Look for these guys when you visit.

Is it possible to have a gnome coup?

🚙 It's been a rough last-half of the week for us Weekenders.

My (Sharon's) car broke down as I was coming back from running an errand on the way up the 7D mountain on one of the switchbacks. Definitely not ideal. There was a loud bang and it felt like something was dragging (but nothing was). Thought it was dirt-nap for the transmission, we'll see.

Fortunately I was able to slowly drive it up to the top while Seven Devils maintenance followed me so I wouldn't get hit from behind as I was just *creeping* up the mountain. I parked it up by the condos while Bryan--who was working remotely at the cabin--walked to meet me.

We needed to rent a car to drive back to Charlotte so we could fetch Bryan's car ... and fortunately we ran into neighbors driving past who gave him a lift to pick up the rental. (WHO KNEW you could rent a 2013 Hyundai Genesis from the Golf place in Foscoe?!) We left my car parked overnight at the condos (see the note?) and drove back to Charlotte, exhausted.

We had to bring the rental back to Boone the next day (apparently no one-way rentals are available in this area?? ¯⁠\⁠(⁠°⁠_⁠o⁠)⁠/⁠¯).

We managed to get my car towed into Boone where they are currently diagnosing it. We then drove back to Charlotte last night because we have incoming guests arriving today! Too much driving over this 24-hour period, but honestly things could have been worse.

I *LOVE* my car although she's getting to be a little old biddy. She's a 2009 Nissan Murano pushing 170k miles and been oursteadfast daily, Billy goat extraordinaire, and travel companion for FIFTEEN yearsI really don't want another car, and we've already dumped a lot of money into it this year.

Please say some prayers for my Murano that she comes home instead of having to put her out to pasture 😢

The plants are back! Fun fact: these plants have been in Charlotte over the winter. Each year we buy new outdoor plants and of course they die in winter, well, cuz it's winter. What a waste of plants and money!

We loved the plants we purchased last year as they really thrived. We had an idea to try to save them for the following spring and it worked on 3 out of 4 plants.

They lived inside our Charlotte home this past winter. Once the days got warmer, we'd move them to the outside - just during the day. Eventually we moved them outside day and night. The night temp in Seven Devils is finally warm enough,so they are back home where they belong - Seven Devils!
