Seymour District Old Settlers Association was organized at a meeting in Evans Hall in Seymour on July 20, 1894. Thereafter the meeting would be held on the last Saturday in August at Seymour according to the by-laws. There have been changes to the date but 131 years later Seymour still holds an annual celebration.
The town of Seymour was established in 1871, 23 years before the first Old Settlers celebration was held. Growth of the town was slow at the beginning but by 1900 the population was 3,000 and it was referred to in a newspaper story the metropolis of Wayne County.
