I have lost my best friend, my soul mate, the love of my life! My heart is broken in a million pieces and the pain today is just too much to bear. I have so many questions, so much anger, and the deepest feeling of emptiness. He fought so hard, to his very last breath he was fighting, not wanting to leave the family that he loved so very deeply. As heavy and as dark as this day is I truly want nothing more than to honor his life. His life and his loss cannot be in vain, it must serve and resonate in the hearts and souls of others. As his wife, and his partner in fight I promised him I would help to create this ripple, to be his voice.
The truth is, that in the past 4 years I have been witness to the strongest man I have ever had the honor of knowing. He took his diagnoses on with valor. Accepting the challenge with every ounce of his spirit, attempting any and all efforts to rid his body of this horrible disease. He never shed a single tear for himself, despite endless disappointments and denials. His tears were for us, the pain that this diagnose caused his family. This selflessness continued, despite the endless needs that were slowly robbed from him. The loss of the ability to eat solid foods, the wound manager, the extreme weight loss, fatigue, inability to work (which was one of the hardest things for him) not being able to go the bathroom. The basic every day things that we all don't think one second of valuing or being grateful for. He found gratitude in the simple fact that he was still alive, that he was still fighting. I don't want to ever hear that Grant lost his battle to cancer, I don't want that word to ever have power over his life and our fate. He won his battle, with dignity and the most amazing bravery and courage.
He will be remembered as a man with incredible integrity. A kind man with a huge selfless heart. A man who has touched so many lives encountered with his simple acts of kindness. A loving husband who wanted nothing more than to spend every waking hour in the presence of his wife. A friend, who always smiled and greeted you with joy despite whatever challenges and tribulations he might be facing.
I am honored to have grown with this beautiful human being, our relationship grew into the deepest form of understanding. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by so people who love him, to the words of one of his favorite songs.
He was humbled by the outpouring of support and love our Grant tribe gave to him and our family. He had such a grateful heart. Please continue to pray for our families peace, and comfort during this incredibly painful time. We welcome everyone to come with a favorite memory about our beloved Grant Caulder. Today we are in a million pieces and the pain today is just too much to bear.
