For 33 years, the Kinzua Fly Fishing School hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has provided the fly-fishing community with quality instruction and hands-on experience in the natural streams and rivers of the Allegheny National Forest.

The educational team includes experienced fly fishers, full-time and part-time guides, former guides, and former teachers. Their knowledge and skills allow the school to maintain a student-to-instructor ratio of about 4 to 1, which has played a major role in the school’s success.

Eleven awesome volunteers recently spent 116 hours sprucing up the North and South Link Trails in Tiadaghton and Susquehannock State Forests! These two routes link the Black Forest Trail and Susquehannock Trail Systems, creating a ton of great hiking opportunities.

Downed trees were removed, brush was cut, and blazes were freshened on more than 14 miles of trail during this work weekend. Thank you to everyone who came out to help!

Newly named a part of Moshannon State Forest public land, Bilger’s Rocks is an incredible rock formation site. The 300-million-year-old sandstone formations are preserved and celebrated by the Bilger’s Rocks Association. The natural area includes caves, cliffs, passageways and other unusual features for hikers and adventurers to explore. These rocks have attracted visitors for more than 10,000 years and were once used for shelter by Native Americans.

“Live where you make a difference.” That’s one of the mottos of Kane’s annual Kare for Kane event, which brings hundreds of residents and visitors together to volunteer in a variety of ways for the good of the community. This event is organized by the Kane Area Revitalization Enterprise (K.A.R.E.).

In May, a few members of the PA Wilds team volunteered to help with various projects such as beautifying the streetscape of Kane, taking care of its trails, picking up litter, and adding new amenities like benches or signage.

“There’s something special about seeing community members pull together and make a difference,” said Carrie Klaiber, Administrative Manager for the PA Wilds Center.
