Chasing Africa Outdoors All I wanted to do was get back to Africa. Opening November 2020

We had not left it, yet, but when I would wake in the night I would lie, listening, homesick for it already. - Hemingway

What is your favorite non DG animal to hunt? Then tell us why. Bonus points if you give the rifle and caliber you use.

The second most picked 375 in my unscientific poll was the 375 R***r. The rifle pictured is the only rifle I have had in this caliber. A Re*****on 798 that was rebarreled. I bought it to do some research on the caliber as I’m not a big fan of the R***r rifle. After checking on ammo prices, dies, and components. I decided I didn’t need to do research that bad.😁

Really performance is so close to the H&H they are nearly twins. The H&H has a H2O capacity of 95gr and the R***r is 99gr, so the R***r has a 4% advantage there, so will give roughly 40-60 FPS more speed. That is something but not a huge difference. I’ll give what I believe are the advantages of the R***r to the H&H and disadvantages. You can tell me if I’m full of s…t.

Advantages
-Can be bought in a cheaper rifle.
-Shorter lighter action.
-I personally have a soft spot for it as it is American. We fought the British for a reason. lol
Short list of advantages but that is all I have.

Disadvantages
-Available in a shorter lighter action. I feel a 375 should be at least 10 preferably 10.5 pounds ready to hunt.
-Ammo is getting easier to find but still not readily available in Africa.
-Only trustworthy rifle available in is R***r 77. Most hunters looking to go to Africa like a M70, CZ550 type rifle and they aren’t real compatible with the R***r. You could take a M70 in 7mm Mag or 300Win and rebarrel. Then your money savings is gone and I would be worried about feeding issues?

This has gotten way too long! But as you can probably see I really don’t have much good or bad to say about the 375 R***r, I feel it is a H&H in a different shape. So if I had to choose between the H&H and the R***r it would be the H&H, but neither would be my choice of the most practical 375.

Shoot clay pigeon 375. Practice for a buff or leopard with my 375 RUM.

I’m not selling. Not mine to sell. Thought someone might find the cool factor of this rifle I saw while I was hunting in the LGS. Heavy barrel, tang safe. Anyone have one? How do the shoot.

I think I will do a series of post as a follow up to my post on what is the most practical 375 for Africa, it received quite a few comments that I didn’t expect.

I’ll start with the obvious winner the 375 H&H. There is not much to say that hasn’t been said about Grandpa 375. It is enough of everything with out being short on anything. I believe it is more versatile today than ever with the 250g copper bullets it makes a great rifle to reach out for elk, stag or eland. With the 270-300g controlled expansion bullets it will lay to rest any buff, whether you’re talking bison, Asiatic, Cape, or Nile, with little fanfare. Boringly simple, boringly reliable. BUT it is not my pick for the most practical.

How do you guys rid yourself of obsolete ammo? The stuff that is factory or I know is safe for rifles I have, I plan on having a Sunday Funday and shoot water balloons and jugs with the family. But I have some loads for calibers I no longer have, and some rounds that came with used guns that I don’t want to try. I really don’t want to spend hours pulling bullets. Is there a good alternative?

Can you guess the rounds? Makes me laugh when I work with them back to back.
