Sixty-nine years ago today -- October 16, 1954 -- a relatively unknown kid from Memphis made his first appearance on the Louisiana Hayride radio program broadcast from the Municipal Auditorium in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana.
No one knew it at the time, but that brief performance during the Lucky Strike guest slot would become a watershed moment in American history. It wouldn't be long before that young kid in the pink jacket would be known as the King of Rock and Roll and regarded as one of the greatest entertainers in American history.
