This Memorial Day, we encourage all to take a moment of reflection and gratitude by visiting Veterans Park in Sikeston—a place dedicated to honoring the courage and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes.

Please join us for the Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans Park, located at the intersection of Lynn Street and Campanella Drive. We are honored to welcome Governor Mike Kehoe as this year’s keynote speaker.

In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved indoors to First Christian Church.

Let us come together in remembrance and respect for those who gave everything in service to our country.

Our building is featured for Historic Preservation Month! Stop by our office for visitor information and shop at the downtown stores.

May is Historic Preservation Month, recognizing the importance of preserving historic spaces and the role of preservationists in protecting these places while meeting community needs. To honor this month, each week we will look at buildings downtown that have been preserved for current use.
Our second building is the new Sikeston Post, located at 215 N. New Madrid Street. The building was built in 1932 to be a post office. The architect was James Alphonso Wetmore and the builder was M.W. Mvir. Wetmore, who was responsible for building over 2,000 federal buildings in the United States and was the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department from 1915-1934.
The Post Office occupied the building until approximately 1965 when their current building was constructed. The administration offices of the city moved into the building and eventually the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Historic Downtown Sikeston used the space for several years until in 2024 it was remodeled to become the Sikeston Post. The Sikeston Post houses the offices of Economic Development, Sikeston Regional Chamber, Sikeston Visitor’s Bureau and Historic Downtown Sikeston.
The building will also be home to the new Sikeston Rodeo Museum.
The original windows of the building have been replaced, but the building has otherwise kept its original look.
