Yesterday was our final tour in Vietnam, we went to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). It is a huge city with 10 million people living there, there are 7 million scooters and 2.5 million cars, quite the driving experience.

It’s definitely a thriving metropolis and worth visiting but the War Remnants Museum was a reminder of how the winner gets to write history and frame the story. It’s also a reminder there are really no winners in war.

We visited a crazy shopping mall, deals to be had at every turn, I can think of so many who would have benefited by shopping there, it was sadly lost on me.

I’m very glad we went there, I’d be fine going back and spending more time but for now I’m glad to have a day at sea before we arrive in Bangkok.

We landed at Da Nang to catch a bus up to Hue and then on to Our Lady of La Vang, a Marian apparition site. About 7% of the population is Catholic and our tour guide was a 7th generation Catholic, he’s very devout and a great guide who gave us loads of good information.

He also told of an encounter where he helped an old Marine reconnect with a then young boy the Marine had met while serving in Vietnam. With no more than a picture and a location our guide was able to find a relative who recognized the boy as her father. The two were reconnected and stories told.

We also visited the home of Cardinal Nguyen Van Thuan who was imprisoned by the Communist for 13 years and endured solitary confinement for 9 of those years. Our priest, Fr Kaim, met the Cardinal at the Vatican so we felt like we had a connection. The Cardinal has been recommended for Sainthood.

To top off the day we had an amazing lunch within the Citadel area of Hue. Today we’re at sea but tomorrow we’ll tour Ho Chi Minh City, more to follow.

We made it to Vietnam and we spent 2 days getting to tour around the North from Ha Long Bay. The first day we took a bus tour and were able to get around to many great sites but the second day Bruce and I went on our own excursion with the cruise ship on a boat tour of Ha Long Bay. Both days were great and allowed us to see so much of how Vietnam is recovering. Our tour guide on the first day praised Bill Clinton since he was the one to allow trade again between the US and Vietnam, lots of growth since then.

January 3d we finally made it into Hong Kong city center as we prepared to embark on our cruise. It was amazing to see all the sky scrapers!

Here are some pics from the last few days, best decision was to get early access for Disneyland Hong Kong…such a treat to walk onto the busier rides in Fantasyland and the World of Frozen, plus almost no one in the park. On the 31st we took a Dim Sum making class and had a great Winne the Pooh themed lunch afterwards, what a kick. Today we took a “crystal” gondola up a mountain, the view was pretty cool looking in all directions.

Our time on planes is over for a bit, we flew through Incheon, Rep of Korea, the airport was beautiful but no chance to visit the country. Made it to Hong Kong, another nice airport but more excited to make it to our first destination, Hong Kong Disneyland! A new park entry picture and we already met with Goofy! Now for our bodies and minds to figure out what’s going on.

So much more to follow, but we’re starting our final trip of 2025 and the first trip for 2026! Can’t wait to get to the first destination, it’ll be a new kind of magical ❤️

The Destiny is great! Our first night’s dinner was in the Pridelands so we were serenaded with songs from The Lion King. The food was delicious others commented the room was crowded. Yesterday we spent the day at Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, weather was perfect. Last night we had six Broadway Stars belting out some of the best Disney songs from both Heroes and villains well done! Now for a day at Castaway Cay, 5K here we come. ❤️

Yay! We made it on board! We’re on the Maiden Voyage of the Disney Destiny and it is such a magical experience!
