It should be more often that we feel inspired.
At the end of last steelhead season, my long time friend and colleague, John Klar asked me if I would be interested in taking a few of his long time customers that wished to continue winter Steelhead fishing after his retirement. I had a few holes in my schedule and agreed.
After a reschedule, due to low water, I finally got to meet Dean and Mike. Dean (pictured with me) had suffered a traumatic brain injury 20 plus years ago. He is functioning daily with assistance, however he has the best attitude of any human i have ever met.
The fishing was very slow on this day, however we laughed and joked and talked crap back and forth all day. We were less than anhour from the end of the day and Dean said “I got one” I looked at the rod and told Dean “ your hung up again” he didnt argue at all and just began fighting his fish. ( I honestly didnt believe he had one and to my defense, the fish started very lethargic.)
Dean landed his fish and he was extremely excited. I found so
Much inspiration in my experience with with Dean and his story. He lives life as if he never has a bad day. He is so thankful for his life, his family and his friends. He didn’t complain one time throughout the entire trip . He truly inspired me to look at life a little differently.
Dean and Mike. I hope you get to see this. Thank you both so much for the opportunity to share the day. I am very greatful.
