You’ve probably heard that Hope Floats was filmed in Smithville.

But that’s only part of the story.

Smithville has welcomed numerous film and television productions over the years, leaving familiar locations scattered throughout town.

Here’s the problem with visiting Smithville:
~You think you’re coming for the afternoon.
~Then you find another shop you want to explore.
~Someone tells you where you should go for dinner.
~You realize you haven’t taken the Film Tour yet.
~And suddenly heading home doesn’t sound nearly as appealing.

Good thing we have a place for that.

From historic homes and cozy cottages to country cabins, ranch stays, RV sites and places tucked along the Colorado River, there are plenty of ways to make Smithville more than a day trip.

A little rain over the last couple of days isn’t stopping our wonderful Saturday morning in Smithville! Meet Me at the Depot is still on for tomorrow morning, and we’re feeling good about the outlook with drier conditions expected overnight and into the morning.

They don’t make Saturdays like this anymore. We do.

So come on out, pull up a chair and spend your Saturday morning with us — live music, classic cars, trolley rides, kids’ activities, games, food vendors, porch visiting and plenty of good company.

Looks like we’ll have a special visitor in town the weekend of October 3–4!

Texas Travel Talk is coming to spend the weekend experiencing Smithville — starting with Meet Me at the Depot and taking in the citywide garage sales, local food and shops, the The Smithville Heritage Society Open House, Smithville Fall Market Days, the Smithville Music Festival, Smithville Farmers Market, a little nightlife, and plenty of the small-town character that makes Smithville worth slowing down for.

We’re excited to welcome Kim Byers Croisant, Texas travel writer and author of the soon-to-be-released book "Small Town Texas". We’re looking forward to giving her a real taste of Smithville over the course of the weekend.
