Assin Manso Slave River

Along our journey of ancestorial past and present, we made our way to the Cape Coast. On this day, we stood on the land where no one who once entered ever returned.

Listening to the stories of this site was the hardest part. We prayed, entered the Gates to the river site and walked the path of those before us to the last bath allowed before selling and separating began. With feet to the soil and our energy in the spirit we connected, feeling the agony and despair in the air... it was heavy.

Afterwards, we sung praises of worship, for we have returned to honor the lives of our former families.

We then exchanged a good word to each other, embraced and shed joyful tears. We have returned back home!
