Wapama Falls was such a fun family adventure with the kids 💦

This beautiful hike in Hetch Hetchy has incredible reservoir views, waterfalls, bridges, and tunnels along the way. The trail is mostly gradual, making it a great option for families who want a Yosemite hike without the huge crowds.

The kids loved walking across the bridges and getting close to the roaring waterfall. Spring is especially magical when the falls are flowing strong and everything is lush and green. Definitely bring a rain jacket and waterproof shoes because the mist near the falls can soak you quickly!

Parking is limited near the trailhead, so it’s best to arrive early—especially on weekends and warmer spring days. 🌲

There's nothing like seeing a bear in Yosemite, but your safety (and the safety of future visitors) depends on your actions.

Bears are now active throughout Yosemite, searching for food (and mates).

The best ways to prevent a negative encounter are:

🐻Keep your distance: stay at least 50 yards from bears that are away from development and people.

🐻If you see a bear in a developed area or approaching people, act immediately to scare it away by yelling as loudly and aggressively as possible.

🐻Store your food, drinks, trash, and toiletries properly:

🐻When picnicking or hiking, be sure to keep all your food within arm's reach all the time.

🐻You can leave food inside your car during the day, but only if windows are closed, doors are locked, and food is out of sight. Do not leave food in an open pickup bed or strapped outside a vehicle.

🐻Do not leave food in a car after dark.

🐻If you're staying overnight, check out go.nps.gov/bears for details on how to store your food.

Behaving the right way around bears protects bears, your safety, and your property. These recommendations are for Yosemite. Anytime you visit bear country, you should check local recommendations because bear behavior and activity is different in different places.
