Vice Presidential Walks

Vice Presidential Walks We are part of the American Volkssport Association, a walking and sport organization. This is a special program honoring the Vice Presidents of the U.S.

Vice Presidential Walks is part of the walking incentives of volkssporting. Our goal is to walk in places significant in the lives of the US Vice Presidents. We sell a booklet with twelve spaces for twelve different walks and twelve different VPs. Fill the book and earn the award, which is a color patch depicting Truman walking near the Washington Monument. Truman, who was VP under FDR, was also a

lifelong walker. He can be a role model for all of us in the IVV in that regard. That is why he was chosen for the patch. Check AVA.org for walks known to qualify, or let your local club know if they have a Vice President qualifier on their routes. The American Volkssport Association gives us an incentive program to keep active while enjoying travel throughout the United States. Special Programs are part of the incentives, allowing us to focus on walking toward certain personalized goals. Our walks are non competitive and do at your own pace. While we welcome all ages, fitness levels, and interests, many of our walkers are middle aged and seniors. Our local clubs, who put on the walks, are located throughout the United States. We are always looking for local people to help us keep the walks open and available. The AVA and our local clubs are all not for profit. The money we make on the walks and on our special programs is all used to keep the walks going.

All convention walks in Billings Montana qualify for Coolidge, Theodore Roosevelt and Pence. All three made visits here which are memorialized by photographs. Our qualifications must be easy to prove with research. These are.

Although the convention program didn't indicate it, the convention walks include many with VP qualifiers. The Little Big horn counts for George H W Bush. why? He was president when the National Park was renamed and when the Indian memorial was opened.

Yesterday's walk in Rapid City SD had at least a dozen qualifiers for VPs. I chose Richard Nixon.

I am starting to get some feedback on our special progam which I will share here. I am wondering if I should change the rules, as I am not seeing many clubs marketing their walks for individual VPs. I wonder if by making it any 12 VPs it would make it easier for walkers and clubs too.

Many of the Vice Presidents went on to be Presidents. You can use the same walks you did for the Presidents special programs. All you have to do is find a connection on your walk to one of the Vice Presidents. It doesn't matter when the connection occurred, before, during or after he was VP.

This special program is completed with only 12 walks. Each walk must have a qualifier for a Vice President of the United States. For example, our White River Jct VT walk starts at the Coolidge hotel. For the clubs, your Capital walks are great places to look for VP qualifiers. Most of our VPs were legislators or in state government before they went to DC. New York should have the most VP qualifiers, but we believe you will find them in every state.

We would like to help the clubs locate and approve qualifiers on their routes. If you have a question about a possible qualifier, we should be able to help. Ask us here, or via the provided email.

We are gearing up to start sending out the first batch of VP books in October. The program begins in January. This program is a lot like the Presidents program of a decade ago, but it will encourage us all to refresh our knowledge of the US Vice Presidents. A VP walk qualifier must be something or someplace of significance to a US Vice President.

This is our award for completion of 12 walks.
