5 resorts for a girlfriends getaway within a 5-hour flight, because you don't need two weeks or a long haul to make it a real trip.

Round Hill, Jamaica.
Understated, beautifully maintained, and the kind of property that attracts a crowd that isn't there to be loud about it. The villas have private pools and the whole place has a quiet elegance that makes it feel like a discovery even if you've been to Jamaica before.

Malliouhana, Anguilla.
Clifftop infinity pool, powder white beaches, and a pace of life that will have the whole group decompressed by day two. Anguilla is deliberately low-key and this is one of its best properties.

Sandals Royal Curaçao.
For the group that wants the all-inclusive handled and done well. Curaçao has a distinct personality compared to the rest of the Caribbean and this property is genuinely one of the more visually stunning resorts in the region.

Sugar Beach, St. Lucia.
Set between the Pitons with a beach that looks like it was art directed. The scenery alone makes it worth the trip and the resort matches it.

Montage Los Cabos, Mexico.
For the group that wants a beach with serious energy, great food, and rooms that feel like a flex. Los Cabos delivers on all of it and Montage is one of the strongest properties on the corridor.

Grenada does not get nearly enough attention relative to what it actually offers. I think that's partly because it has never really chased the spotlight, which is a big part of its appeal. Spice farms, rainforest, beautiful beaches that aren't overrun, a capital that has actual character, and water that belongs on a screensaver. It also tends to attract a traveler who did their research rather than one who just picked the most recognizable name in the region, which changes the whole vibe of being there.

A resort can have 12 restaurants, 4 pools, and a swim-up bar, and still feel completely wrong.

That is the part most websites never tell you.

They all look the same online, perfect lighting, infinity pools, and a suspiciously happy couple holding cocktails at sunset. But the real difference is whether the resort was built to impress you, or actually designed for you to enjoy every hour you spend there.

I’ve seen clients almost book the flashy option, then switch to the property with better food, a quieter beach, and a layout that makes sense. That is usually the trip they rave about later.

The planning phase of a Europe trip has a way of starting as something exciting and slowly becoming something you dread opening a tab for. By the time most people come to me they've already spent hours on it and they're more confused and less confident than when they started. This is not a sign that they did something wrong, it's just what happens when you try to make a high-stakes decision using the entire internet as your research tool.

5 hotels that make you feel like you're in Europe without the flight, because sometimes the passport isn't the point.

Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
Cobblestone streets, baroque architecture, rooftop views over a colonial skyline. San Miguel has been fooling people into thinking they're somewhere in southern Spain for years and this property leans fully into it.

Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, Quebec City.
Old city walls, French everywhere, patisseries on every corner, and a castle hotel sitting above it all. This is the closest thing to Paris without crossing an ocean and it is genuinely stunning in every season.

The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs.
Grand European resort energy in the middle of the Rockies. The kind of property where you show up and immediately understand why people have been coming back for a hundred years.

Biltmore Hotel, Miami.
Mediterranean Revival architecture, the largest hotel pool in the continental US, and a history that goes back to the 1920s. It feels nothing like the Miami Beach you've seen on Instagram.

Hotel Emma, San Antonio.
A converted 19th-century brewhouse on the River Walk with the kind of interiors that make you stop mid-check-in to look around. Intimate, beautifully done, and a city that consistently surprises people.
