Imagine being a kid, kayaking to an island.
We dig in the sand and mud for clams to open and use for bait.
We use that bait to catch a fish, then build a small fire with flint and steel to cook the fish.

There is no more rewarding summer day than this.

This is Explorer Camp.

Led by one of our .sbu interns, the classroom is the salt marsh. Campers and staff gathered quietly around a horseshoe crab lesson, learning about one of the oldest living creatures on Earth and the important role these tidal ecosystems play in the health of our bays. Moments like these teach patience, curiosity, stewardship, and connection to the natural world.

A muddy shoreline. A crab trap coming up full. The entire group yelling “CRAB NATION!” across the marsh with laughter echoing through the creeks.

These are the moments that become part of childhood — connection, confidence, teamwork, and discovering a hidden world most people pass right by.

This Memorial Day Weekend, East End Explorer will be off the water as our family celebrates a milestone very close to our hearts, the graduation of our daughter, Mattie.

We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful, hardworking young woman she has become and excited for her next chapter at the University of Georgia. Go Dawgs!

Mattie will also be returning to Explorer Camp this summer, helping guide the next generation of young explorers on the water she grew up loving.

We will reopen May 30th and look forward to another season of kayaking, marine exploration, fishing, wildlife encounters, and meaningful days outside.

Thank you for supporting our small family-run business and being part of this journey with us.

Leadership at Explorer Camp is built through experience, responsibility, and connection to the natural world.

Our older campers step into mentorship roles by helping guide younger Explorers through the creeks, marshes, and bays while learning to become calm, capable leaders themselves. From environmental education and problem solving to communication and teamwork, these experiences help prepare them for future counselor opportunities and leadership roles both on and off the water.
