In 1920, Katharine Boyd was very involved with the local Girl Scouts!
"Girl Scout Camping Trip"
BY ETHEL KATHRYN DAY
If you had been*passing by, near Helen Ruggles house Friday June 11,
about 9 o'clock, you would have seen a merry group of smiling Girl Scouts dressed in uniform, eagerly awaiting the arrival of James Swett's big Oldsmobile truck, to carry them to the Boy Scout's camp (Camp Holden) Thaggards. Camp Holden is a delightful place to camp. There were twelve Girl Scouts and three chap-erons, Captain Helen Ruggles, Mrs. James Boyd, and Mr. A. B. Yeomans. We got up in the morning at 6,30. Breakfast was served at 7,30, dinner at 12.30, rest hour from 2 till 3. Supper about 6, retired at 8,30. Each girl had turn in cooking and washing dishes. The mornings were spent in taking long walks and exploring. Every afternoon we went in swimming, which we enjoyed immensely. Tippy, the dog, was our mascot. We had quite a few visitors fromtown while out there. Friday evening the girls in "Gypsy Camp" told for-tunes, Saturday evening the girls in "Drop In Camp" gave an entertainment. Monday morning we went fishing, but of course we would rather not tell you how many fish we caught. We arrived home safe from camp Monday evening about 5.30 all well and happy. A trip never to be forgotten by the Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts
