Not the mountains. Not the beach. Not the usual tourist destination. Founded as a resort town for northerners after the Civil War, today a golfer and equestrian dream. I’m not a golfer or an equestrian but I love this town since I bought a house here 17 years ago. It’s a step back in time.

For the people who live here, Southern Pines will always be the place that heals the soul.

Why do I ask people not to relocate furniture? Aaron Burke and her band of merry vacation home wreckers dragged a set of wrought iron furniture by its legs over 25 feet of concrete walk. Knocked feet off, scraped the paint on every piece. Being repainted. Aaron, or should I say Karen, tried to have me shut down on AirBnB after I asked her to return the grill and patio furniture to where it belonged. Apparently she didn’t see the notation on the listing that there are two ring video doorbells with stickers next to them saying what they are. Apparently she was upset by them. She and the 5 other guests must not have read the manual that said don’t move the grill or furniture. I wouldn’t need cameras at the entrance if people followed the rules, didn’t sneak added guests, and showed some appreciation/decency. I won’t mention the tea pot they broke and tried to glue the handle on and that fell off when the next guest used it, and said nothing, or the big red stain on the carpet that I can’t get out. Remedy? 3 rooms of carpet. She could use some reading and comprehension help. What a miserable soul.
