Visitors to The Kitchen's Salt House OBX always ask us what our favs are while we are in OBX and well ...... I respond:

• Fav restaurants / area …. Duck, NC rocks.... The Blue Point on the sound in Duck for a great “Back Bar” during the sunset and awesome food. Call for a reservation early in your week. Also the Town of Duck is great for shopping and walking along the sound on a soundfront bridge walkway ….. Aqua has good food too plus they have the ladies favorite …. A massage and spa facility! Then Roadside Grill has awesome food and outdoor bar in the heart of Duck. And for live music .... chill at the Tap Shack for the best banks coming through the area! You might even catch Eddy Kitchen and The JackWagons playing BP or TS!
• Fav adventure….. Outer Banks Adventures (Air Boat Ride Inshore) Jamie Moore 757-871-6402 Call or text 1.5 hours look from the soundside. Cool info from Jamie and fun time. Tell him that The Kitchen’s sent you! We just went last week …… great 2 hours. When you are done, stop by Miller’s on the soundfront and go to the topside bar with a crazy cool view for lunch or drinks!
• Wanchese is famous for the fresh seafood right off the boats ….. and building big yachts …. So if you are in the market, Bayliss Boatworks is very near as is Spencer Yachts ….. bring your piggy bank!
• Wright Brother’s Museum was recently redone! Lots to see and learn even with a quick tour. Interesting cool OBX location.
• Bodie Island Light House is also a close and cool site with nice little walkway over the inland estuaries and a historical house…. Probably closed due to covid.
• The Oregon Inlet Fishing Center is great to catch the boats coming in around 3pm +/- with their catches. Hit or miss if you see the big fish but you’ll be at the new bridge just built over the inlet and it takes you up pretty high. Keep going and you eventually reach Hatteras Island and the ferry ride to Ocracoke Island where Kimberly and I were married on the beach! It is an all day adventure down there but you can at least see the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse!
• Paper Canoe is another cool soundside restaurant just north of Duck with interesting food options and great sunset views. The Sanderlin Inn is in route on the beach ….exclusive resort with open dining for guests.
• If you want to just cook on the grill ….. Carawans Seafood is 5 minutes away and they have all the freshest local seafood plus more. (It’s beside the liquor store for an afternoon nip nip with yo shrimp!)
• Gotta hit The Brew Thru to pickup your drinks for the day and then it’s a must to go to WAVE RIDING VEHICLES Surf Shop to pick up some cool beach swag, bikinis and swim trunks! Mp 1.5 bypass road
• Jockey’s Ridge is a hike up to the top in sand …….. but a great view of ocean to sound and spectacular sunsets once you are there ….Milepost 11. You are MP -.5 at our home then head south.
• Art’s for a great greasy hamburger and Captain Franks for the best hotdog ever with cheese fries and Mama Kwans for awesome Fish Tacos! Say hello to Kwan for me....a HS buddy gone bigtime!
• John’s Drive-In for a great milkshake and tuna boat lunch with onion rings. *Warning …. Go before 11:30 am ……Very little parking!
• Grab you a surfboard at Farm Dogs and head down over to beach mp 12 where there is an easy wave break at low tide so that you can hang ten! ***Do this early in your week because you will be hooked and want to rent the board for the week just to do it more. Or better yet ……Outer Banks Surf School gives lessons!
• Last …. The Roanoke Island Aquarium in Manteo is also very cool. Check all state facilities and gov’t parks before going to make sure that they are open.
• I’m sure that I have missed some other cool spots but …. I’ve run out of time and paper.
