Happy 13th to this kid. You light up every room with your infectious smile and your kind nature. So proud of the kind, empathetic and thoughtful teen you have become. You make every day a joy with your beautiful energy ( even the many trips to the ER we’ve had!)

Halcyon House and Paper Daisy is back open and I was lucky enough to be treated here for dinner. Very spoilt. Couldn’t help but remember when Mum and my sister and I used to hang here by the pool and stay in the motel way back in 80s before it became it’s now coastal glam luxe hideaway.

While I’m every bit an ocean girl, I also love a good hike. I’ve been lucky enough to hike the Himalayas in Nepal, and Machu Picchu in Peru. But some days I just love exploring my back yard. Today I hiked my 10 acre boundary and marvelled at the views from the top which distracted me from my yard work. Now back to yard work! •

I was recently interviewed by Carrie Mitchell from Travel Oracles about my journey and life surrounding travel. •

Carrie and I met during a travel blogging trip to Bermuda for Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. Some of you may recall this trip in my previous posts – it was an amazing trip full of inspiring like-minded travel girls and Carrie and I were room mates and hit it off like a house on fire. In fact we joke how similar we are in our careers – she’s basically me on the other side of the world. Our career history being in media and journalism and travel is scarily similar, and so is our deep love of female travel.•

Carrie has gone on to support women in travel in so many inspiring ways. She’s written books, has a couple of travel businesses and works full time in the tourism industry and now a podcast!

Total power house of a boss lady in this area of travel!

So I was very grateful when she asked me for an interview on her podcast -Travel Oracles.

We talk about how we met, our love of travel, where travel began for me and some controversial discussions about why there is not more females being acknowledged in the travel industry and especially on TV.

Check out the pod cast at www.traveloracles.com. Or link in bio.

Some days I feel so grateful to be able to watch sunsets as beautiful as this, watch my kids laugh on the sand and feel blessed to be able to travel even while some are in lockdown.

I had doubts that wasn’t going to be much to write home about because it’s so close to home and not some overseas exotic location. But it’s blown me away. It may not be Fiji, or Bali, or Malaysia or a foreign tropical island but one hour from Brisbane by Ferry and I feel like I could be anywhere in the Pacific.

We are damn lucky to call this county home. Sometimes it’s the simple pleasures that matter-especially in a pandemic. Enjoy your backyard. Get out there and explore it, even if it’s an hour away!

But if you get a chance check out my stories on the best markets in Sunshine Coast and things to do around Sunshine Coast. And if you missed this year book it in for next year!
