We finally caught a weather window, so I gave my buddy Edward Deitch a call and headed out to see if the spring striper bite was still hanging on.

We left the dock in pea soup fog, but thanks to my Garmin electronics and the new radar, we made the run to Plum Gut safely—just a little slower than usual. Unfortunately, there weren't any fish there, so we pointed the bow toward the Race.

By then, the fog was beginning to lift, and the radar showed a small fleet of boats. We eased over to check them out and found a solid bass bite. After a few drifts, I came tight on a beautiful slot striper that made its way into the fish box.

As often happens, the bite fizzled out, and we spent some time searching without much to show for it. With the tide going slack, we started heading back, but spotted birds working over our original area. Sure enough, the fish had fired back up, and Ed hooked into another quality slot fish to fill our limit.

With two keeper bass in the box, clearing skies overhead, and calm seas all around, it was the perfect ride back to the dock.

The water continues to warm, and the striped bass are steadily pushing east. Before long, the summer pattern will take over, and the daytime spring bite will be just another great memory. The good news is there's still plenty of bass around the bay, and the fluke fishing out of Montauk is starting to heat up as well.

Great day on the water with good company—doesn't get much better than that!

What a great Father’s Day trip with the Heller family this morning!

After two blown-out days, it felt awesome to get back on the water, make some memories, and put smiles on faces. The Peconic Bay delivered once again. While the morning started off a little slow, the action picked up as the day went on with weakfish, porgies, and sand sharks keeping the rods bent.

The fluke managed to evade us today, but the crew still headed home with some nice fillets and even bigger smiles. That’s what it’s all about!

We still have some great dates available this season, so if you're looking to get out on the water and create some memories of your own, give us a call or send a message. Tight lines!

Two unforgettable days on the water with the Pinto family!

Over the past two days, I had the pleasure of hosting the Pinto family on one of the exclusive Catch & Cook experiences offered through Silver Sands Motel & Beach Bungalows.

This unique adventure gives guests the chance to spend a day on the bay targeting some of our favorite local species, then return to the resort where the chefs transform the day’s catch into an incredible farm-to-table, sea-to-table dining experience.

The fishing was outstanding. We landed:
✅ Striped bass at both Plum Gut and The Race
✅ Weakfish and fluke in Peconic Bay
✅ And, to top it all off, we were treated to the rare sight of a U.S. Navy nuclear submarine heading out to sea on day two!

Back at the resort, the culinary team created an amazing meal featuring:
🐟 Weakfish crudo with Cara Cara oranges and jalapeño in a carrot reduction
🐟 Striped bass with local radishes

From great fishing and beautiful weather to incredible food and memorable sights, it was an experience none of us will forget.

If you've ever wanted to catch your own dinner and enjoy the very best of what our local waters have to offer, contact Silver Sands Resort to check availability and coordinate a trip. I'd love to get you out on the water for a truly one-of-a-kind East End experience.

This past Saturday, I hit the water with the Peper brothers, Eric and Harold. We left the dock at 5:00 a.m., hoping to get in on an early striper bite, but the fish had other plans.

We worked Plum Gut and The Race hard, covering plenty of water and trying just about everything we could think of, but came up empty. After striking out offshore, we headed inshore and I stopped at a few of my usual summer spots along the way. Other than a handful of sand sharks, there wasn't much happening.

Eventually, we made our way to one of my favorite spots in the bay. We practically had it to ourselves, with only one other charter boat nearby, and that's when things finally came together. The action picked up with fluke and weakfish, and the boys put two keeper fluke and a beautiful keeper weakfish in the boat before the tide went slack.

Not the striper trip we set out for, but that's fishing. We ended up with some great fish for the table, a beautiful day on the water, and quality time spent with old friends. Hard to complain about that.

Made my first trip to Plum Gut yesterday for the spring striped bass run, and it definitely did not disappoint!
The action started off a little slow, but as the tide progressed, the bite really turned on and the hookups kept coming. With birds working, a few bluefish mixed in, and plenty of boats enjoying the fishery, there was never a dull moment.
The guys put their slot fish in the boat and we released plenty more, both over and under the slot, ensuring a healthy fishery for the future.
Considering the horrible storm we had this past weekend, today's conditions and fishing were nothing short of spectacular. Days like this are what make spring striped bass season so special!

What a washed-out weekend — but we still managed to put some fish in the boat before the weather settled in!

Friday night gave us a solid striped bass bite with 6 fish landed, all over slot size. The action was a little slower than earlier in the week and there were definitely more boats around, but the crew was thrilled to catch their first Peconic Bay stripers.

Saturday morning started slow on the bass, so we switched gears and targeted fluke. We picked away at a few shorts, added some porgies to the mix, and made it back to the dock just before the rain rolled in.

Even with the tough weather, we got out, found fish, and had a great time. The fishing is only going to improve from here — and June is one of the best months of the year on Peconic Bay.

Snuck in a last-minute bottom fishing charter yesterday afternoon. Conditions were tough — windy and far from ideal — but sometimes the ocean has other plans.

On the ride home after dropping off the charter guests, I noticed birds working at dusk and decided to take a quick look. The fishfinder instantly lit up, I dropped down… boom, bass on.

For the next hour, it was absolute chaos in the best way possible — fish after fish, nonstop action on both bottom rigs and surface lures. Naturally, this happened to be the one trip I didn’t bring the GoPro.

Ended up landing about a dozen bass before calling it a night. One of those magical evenings you never forget.

The fish are here. Still spotty, but they are definitely showing up.

Made a last-minute decision to get out yesterday afternoon and see if the striped bass had started showing up — and it turned into one of those trips you never forget.

The afternoon started slow. I tried topwaters, then 3-way rigs, but couldn’t get much going. Finally, after marking some fish, I switched over to flutter spoons and started dropping on them.

First fish of the season was a beautiful slot-sized striped bass — a great way to kick things off. But the next drop is the one I’ll remember for a long time.

The big girl hit hard, took line immediately, and made several incredible runs. When I finally got her boatside, she wouldn’t even fit in the net. After a tough battle, I got her in the boat for a quick photo and released her as fast as possible. Watching her swim away strong made the moment even better.

Best part? All of this happened within 2 miles of the marina.

The season is officially underway. Give a call : (516) 662-6382

North Fork Adventures Charters is excited to announce a new partnership for the 2026 season with Rig Mate pre-tied dropper loops!

Last year, while doing some late-night scrolling, I came across this product and was intrigued enough to give it a try. I picked up a spool—and honestly, it turned out to be a complete game changer.

Running charters means a lot of prep work behind the scenes, especially tying rigs before each trip. I used to spend hours just tying dropper loops before I could even start building the rig. With Rig Mate’s pre-tied loops (available in a variety of line tests), that prep time has been cut down dramatically.

Now I can build a fresh rig or swap one out during a trip in about half the time it used to take—keeping lines in the water and maximizing fishing time for my customers.

If you’re looking to save time and simplify your setup, definitely check them out: https://www.rigmate.com/

This one’s a true game changer.
