Fiber Cement Board: Fiber cement board is another everyday product that benefits from Acti-Gel® product in the formulation. Many applications use fiber cement boards from flooring to siding on houses.

Day 10: December 15th, 2023
Hollowcore: This is one of the more unique applications that use Acti-Gel® additives.
Hollowcore is like paving with a dry cast block mix. As we’ve already seen, Acti-Gel® additions have excelled in block and paving, so hollowcore is another win.
Using Acti-Gel® product allows for more moisture in the mix, improving compaction and hydrating more cement for better strength. The added moisture also enables an increase in machine speed and productivity.
The porduct’s ability to densify and add robustness to the cement paste results in a better bond between the concrete and prestressed cables throughout the slab. Reduction in strand retraction is typical.

Day 8: December 13th, 2023

Mine Backfill: You’ve seen seven days of concrete applications, and today, we will expand the use cases to include improving mine backfill. Cemented hydraulic backfill can be difficult to gravity feed through miles-long piping systems to the underground deposit area. Oftentimes, additional cement is used as a carrier fluid to improve the stability and flow of the backfill. Acti-Gel® additions help suspend the coarse particles in the mix and creates a lubrication layer along the pipe wall to ease flow through the line. The improved flow reduces the need for additional cement. Our customer Vale-Base-Metals operates as a role model for the mining industry by utilizing the Acti-Gel additive to reduce their carbon footprint, improve their operation, and lead through action.

Day 7: December 12th, 2023

Lightweight Concrete: Acti-Gel® product was dosed in the lightweight concrete used to construct the Cornhusker football stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Poorly conditioned lightweight aggregate can wreak havoc on a concrete pump. The Cornhuskers needed a mix that could pump at a lower slump with subpar lightweight aggregate.

With Acti-Gel® product addition, slump losses were minimal, and placement was effortless. The contractor elected not to use a finishing aid due to the ease of finishing. The usual bleeding was not present, and the contractor could finish the floor quicker than in previous lightweight projects with which he had experience. This good result has been duplicated many times with various contractors.

Self-Consolidating Concrete: Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC) is a perfect application for Acti-Gel® additives. Acti-Gel® acts as a replacement for conventional viscosity-modifying admixtures and performs even better at reducing pump and formwork pressures.
Take a look at the pics below. The spread on the left has significant bleed water issues that would result in a segregated mix in the field.

Curb, Paving, and Roller Compacted Concrete: See the picture of that perfect curb below; before Acti-Gel® 208 product was added, that was a 5” slump. With the Acti-Gel 208 addition, the mix slid down the chute easily, flew through the curb machine, and produced a beautiful curb with zero deformations or sagging. Our customers have reported that the Acti-Gel® curb mixes resulted in quicker truck turnarounds and paving speeds.

Acti-Gel® product also works excellently in RCC. Acti-Gel® performance allows for increased moisture in RCC, dramatically enhancing the paste quality, improving compaction, and closing voids.”
