📚🌍 Happy World Book Day! 🌍📚

At Plan It Travel, we’re BIG fans of books—because every great trip starts with a great story. Whether it’s a gripping novel on a long flight, a guidebook full of hidden gems, or a travel memoir that sparks your wanderlust… we’re here for it! ✈️✨

Books take us places before we even pack a bag—and sometimes, they inspire our next adventure.

So tell us…
📖 What’s a book that made you want to go somewhere?
🌎 Or where do you wish you could read a book right now?

We’ll go first: reading in a cozy café in Paris sounds just about right… ☕️📘

🎭🎉 Throw Me Something, Mister!

On our trip to New Orleans, we made a colorful stop at Mardi Gras World—and y’all, it was an absolute blast! 💜💚💛

This behind-the-scenes gem is where the magic of Mardi Gras literally comes to life. It’s where the amazing floats are built, painted, and prepped for the big parades each year. The artists and designers there are true wizards, turning foam and paint into larger-than-life masterpieces!

Mardi Gras isn’t just a party—it’s a tradition deeply rooted in New Orleans history, community, and creativity. Visiting Mardi Gras World gave us a whole new appreciation for all the work (and glitter!) that goes into this iconic celebration.

And yes… we tried on costumes and had way too much fun posing with the floats 😄

Have you ever experienced Mardi Gras—or would you want to?

🌭🇺🇸 Iconic Eats & American History!

If you’ve ever been to Washington D.C., chances are someone told you “You HAVE to try Ben’s Chili Bowl!”—and for good reason!

Founded in 1958 by Ben and Virginia Ali, this legendary spot on U Street has been serving up half-smokes, chili dogs, and fries for generations. What started as a humble diner quickly became a community staple—surviving the 1968 riots, hosting civil rights leaders, and feeding celebrities, presidents, and everyone in between.

✨ Fun fact: Ben’s was one of the only businesses allowed to stay open during the riots following Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination. It became a place of comfort and community when the city needed it most.

From locals to tourists to Barack Obama himself—everyone makes a stop at Ben’s. And yep, we did too! 😄

📍 Have you been to Ben’s Chili Bowl? Or do you have a favorite hometown classic like it?

📍 Culloden Battlefield – A Glimpse into Scotland’s Past
Last year, we had the chance to visit Culloden Battlefield with Plan It Travel, and it was one of the most memorable stops on our Scotland itinerary.

This is the site of the 1746 battle where the Jacobite uprising came to an end. The visitor centre does a great job of walking you through the history, and the field itself is peaceful, yet powerful when you consider what took place there.

Our group took time to explore the grounds, reflect at the clan markers, and learn more about this important chapter in Scottish history.

It was a meaningful day and a highlight of our journey through the Highlands!

Food is More Than Just a Meal—It’s a Passport to Culture! ✈️🍽️

One of the most unforgettable parts of traveling isn’t just the sights or the history—it’s the food. Experiencing local cuisine is like having a conversation with a country’s culture, traditions, and people, all in one bite.

From street food stalls in Bangkok to a family-run taverna in Greece, every dish tells a story. It’s the history of a region, the creativity of its people, and the heart of its hospitality. More than that, food connects us. A shared meal with locals or fellow travelers can break language barriers and create memories that last a lifetime.

As a travel planner, I always encourage my clients to be adventurous with food. Skip the chain restaurants. Try something new. Ask about the ingredients. You might just discover your new favorite dish—and a deeper appreciation for the place you’re visiting.

What’s the most memorable meal you’ve ever had while traveling? 🍜🍷🌍

🌍🌸 Celebrating Women Across the Globe! 🌸🌍

Today on International Women's Day, we honor the countless women around the world who have broken barriers, led change, and influenced the course of history. From Malala Yousafzai's advocacy for girls' education to Maya Angelou's empowering words, women have shown us what strength, resilience, and determination look like.

🌟 Let's celebrate pioneers like:

Wangari Maathai from Kenya, who not only planted trees but also planted the seeds of environmental and political change.
Serena Williams, whose dominance in tennis has inspired a global conversation on gender equality in sports.
Frida Kahlo, who not only painted stunning works of art but also challenged norms and championed individuality.
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first female president in Africa, who led Liberia through its post-war recovery.
These are just a few of the countless women who have shaped our world for the better! 🌍

Today, let’s raise our voices in celebration and gratitude for the women from all walks of life, cultures, and backgrounds who continue to inspire us every day. Tag a woman in your life who has influenced you, and let’s share the love!

🚂 All Aboard for Alaskan History! 🌟

Did you know that the railroad played a crucial role in shaping Alaska’s history? When the Alaska Railroad was completed in 1923, it became a lifeline that connected the remote wilderness to the rest of the country. 🌄✨

Before the railroad, transportation in Alaska was challenging—only by boat or sled could people travel through its vast terrain. But the railroad made it possible to transport goods, mail, and people across the state, sparking economic growth and development. 🚂💥

The railroad was essential for the gold rush, opening up mines and fueling Alaska’s economy. It also played a key part during World War II, transporting troops and supplies to protect the U.S. from the Pacific front. 🚆💪

Today, you can still ride the iconic Alaska Railroad, experiencing firsthand the stunning beauty of Alaska while reflecting on its rich history. 🚞🌲

What’s your favorite piece of Alaskan history? Let’s talk about it!
