In 2017, based on insights from 3,200 community members, reimagining Morgan Square was named a priority of the OneSpartanburg Vision Plan.

Almost a decade later, Morgan Square sits at the center of unprecedented downtown development, with even greater potential as a gathering place and an economic driver.

Measured against the public’s priorities, the new design proposal provides more reasons to spend time in Downtown Spartanburg, more space for residents and visitors to enjoy, and creates a vibrant, cohesive downtown core.

Today we gathered with public and private sector employers, community organizations, and both K-12 and college representatives for the third-annual plEDGE Signing Day, with employers accepting the challenge to create 1,000 internships for high-schoolers and 1,000 internships for college students through summer 2027, made possible through the Spartanburg Academic Movement's Movement 2030. Additionally, a work-based learning portal was announced – TheSpartanburgEdge.com. This portal will connect students to internships based on industry interest, company recognition, and/or job function.

FILOT agreements aren't just necessary for job-creation, they're vital for the long-term economic health of communities across S.C.
