Baiheliang Underwater Museum, China's first underwater museum. It opened in 2009 and was built to preserve an ancient stone ridge that became submerged after the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. The ridge contains inscriptions dating back more than 1,200 years that recorded water levels of the Yangtze River, making it one of the world's oldest hydrological records. Visitors descend into an underwater viewing tunnel and look through large windows at the preserved carvings beneath the river.
