Visiting the Archbishop’s Palace and the Via Domitia from a Canal du Midi Barge Cruise

A cruise on the Canal du Midi is a cruise filled with history, such as the Archbishop's Palace.

The Archbishop’s Palace can be found nearby in the centre of Narbonne. It has multiple towers and consists of two palaces: the Romanesque Palais Vieux and the Gothic Palais Neuf. Although it started as the modest residence of the town’s ecclesiastical elite, it is now the grand setting for Narbonne’s Town Hall, as well as the Museum of Art in the old apartments and the Archaeological Museum in one wing.

Just outside the palace you will notice an exposed section of Roman road. This was once part of the Via Domitia, built in the second century BC as a vital access route from Rome in the west to the Cadiz in the east. Narbonne was the capital of the ancient Roman province of Narbo Martius, the first Roman colony in Gaul. This glimpse of the road’s original surface is a reminder of the city’s important ancient past.

Cruising through Burgundy France

Apres Tout is a 38 metre luxury hotel barge, designed and built to the highest standards. The Après Tout is a converted cargo boat originally built in 1950 and then transformed into a luxury hotel barge in 2004.

Retaining the classic shape and charm of the original French barge, Apres Tout offers luxurious comfort with accommodation for 6 guests in 3 spacious air conditioned staterooms.

The salon and dining area are tastefully furnished in light oak and are very bright and spacious. The salon features large opening windows, a sky light, Bose sound system and a flat screen TV with satellite. A study features a computer with internet access.

The deck is probably the best used area – a wonderful outside space with 360° views. There is a bubbling hot tub that can easily take 6 people, 6 deck chairs for sun seekers and a large canopied shaded area for dining – where all meals are served weather permitting.

A Great Private Cycling Guide Along the Danube



For a small family group that wanted to go cycling from a Danube River Cruise, in March of last year, it was too early for any of the regular cycling companies to be open. After many emails to the different Tourist Boards in the area, the Wachau Valley office came through.

Ingrid Sonnleitner, was great to work with and the guests had only praise for her services. Though, a German native, she is fluent in English and Spanish as well.

U.K.-based pet food company Years says that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Air France, Vueling, Aegean Airlines, Iberia, Air Canada, Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways top the list of most pet-friendly airlines serving Europe.

The primary factor in the rankings is airlines’ willingness to allow dogs to travel with owners in the cabin of the aircraft. However, the policy doesn’t extend to every pet.

According to Travel + Leisure, Europe-bound airlines generally require canine travelers to weigh 17.5 pounds or less—including the weight of the carrier—and must fit under the passenger’s seat and remain stowed for the whole flight.

Travelers also must book passage for their pets in advance. Most U.S. airlines have similar policies for pets to travel on domestic flights, Travel + Leisure noted.
