Dear Beaver Lake Community. It saddens me to make this post. The support from you and our clients are heartfelt and appreciated. Since November of last year we have traveled to New Orleans and back to NWA due to my mother in law being diagnosed and fighting breast cancer. To the point we moved home to be part of her daily grind of treatments etc... We had finally built our business into a business and the future was bright. This Spring and Summer our phone rang off the hook. Bombarded by messages for tours. Would have been financially prosperous for Beyond the Ozarks Guided River Tours. Besides money we thrived on being part of the community and promoting nature. People felt that on our tours for sure. A simple resolution was hire guys that wanted to tour for us. Restrictions by the Corps did not allow for anyone but me to run our tours. Basically selectively enforced against to the point of shut down. Another simple solution for us would be to put the company for sale but again restrictions in place by the corps did not allow this either. With that said we have two slips with lifts at War Eagle Marina available. If interested please reach out to me by message. There is no way we would be leaving beautiful NWA if not for this foretasted fight we will see our loved one through. The Cheval's of War Eagle Marina are family forever. They believed in us from day one and gave us a chance to build our company on their docks. None of us are happy to see us go. God Bless. Captain Al

This Eagles nest has been a delight for all that has toured with us so far this season. If this nest serves this lifelong pair well due to location concerning food and water, they will renovate it each and every year by adding to it. Nest building is done by both male and female and is a bonding experience. Some nest have been recorded at 10ft in diameter and 20ft deep weighing over a ton! Seeing mom and dad take fish from the water and directly head to the nest with hungry noisy fledgling is a magical sight/sound. Now these two are getting set for the real world. This is the first sighting for us that one has left the nest but the other still waiting on his parents for treats. The parents are frequenting the nest less and less. We see them playfully soaring together sometimes on tour miles from this nest. They seem happy that their duties of raising their brood are done. It takes over a month to incubate the eggs and then the real work starts. The one you see perched in the dead tree has not been seen for days now. Expect he or she is learning to hunt on its own. Its been about 10 weeks now so this is common for them to permanently leave the nest and start life. Most folks see birds like these in the distance or even up close and do not recognize it is a Bald Eagle. Some also mistake them for the Golden Eagle in their juvenile stage of life. These two will go through color morphs for about five years before maturity that forms that distinctive White head and tail over time. To think this stunning compliment to our nation was on the brink of extinction is a reason to educate the world on all Mother Natures creatures. The governments thought process was banning DDT in 1972 and a national reintroduction of young birds like these two was a national effort. It worked. Today they are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and some may not know they also have their own protection act called the Bald and Golden Eagle ACT. I once read an article in a Kentucky write up that in 1986 they had one nesting pair and now upwards of 200. The American Bald Eagle is a true success story for the people of the United States to be very proud of. Pics by Captain Al on the mighty White River in "God's Country" the known as the USA.

Ahh Summer time. Time for a Splish Splash for these two love birds. They are mates for life. The male in many ways is the females assistant. Sorry to let that cat out the bag for all the guys reading this. LOL. While nest building he brings in the materials while she builds. She is also known to sing a larger variety of songs than the male. Many of those songs are for him to do something for her. For example. Bring me food, bring the fledglings food and so on. The name they carry was derived by the Catholic Church being their color is similar to the vestments of the Catholic Cardinals. Mostly seed eaters to which those little stout beaks are a master at cracking. During courting the males will actually feed the females beak to beak. They also get the color from the type seeds they do eat. Most popular in sports as a mascot they also are the state bird of seven states. Many songbirds are mainly males that use complicated vocalization. Not with these two. The female actually is more capable of belting out those beautiful tunes less than a third of the time it takes the male to learn them. Girls rule again! The Red-headed Woodpecker is one of my favorites. Pretty elusive to capture on film in the wild. For me anyhow. This birds striking looks hold history in the immediate area of Northwest Arkansas's White River territory. Native Americans have colonized along this river system for thousands of years. Particularly the Quapaw, Osage and Chickamauga Cherokee. The Cherokee used this bird as a war symbol. In fact this woodpecker made a appearance in Henry Longfellow's poem "The Song of Hiawatha" in 1855, Also one of my favorites and maybe his most popular. "Aim your arrows, Hiawatha, At the head of Megissogwon, Strike the tuft of hair upon it" ..This indicates how the Red headed Woodpecker got its bright red head dress. If you haven't ever read the poem here is a link. https://www.hwlongfellow.org/poems_poem.php?pid=283 Enjoy. Pic by Captain Al on the ancient White River here in Northwest Arkansas.

A dose of Mother Nature here in Northwest Arkansas is exactly what the doctor ordered for these beautiful folks. The best part of the tours are the deafening sounds of silence interrupted by birds doing their daily duties. Need a dose for yourself? We are blessed.

Well Well. Had an incredible tour today! Cant say enough wonderful things about my crew. Two groups. One from Iowa and the other from Louisiana. I took them to some spots I was excited about exploring and we hit the Jackpot! Prothonotary Warblers, Inigo Buntings, Tufted Titmouse, Black Capped Chickadees were among the few birds we watched today nest building and calling for mates. Every thing else was just lagniappe after I was so looking forward to the arrival of the Cliff Swallows. Religiously going to my key bluff with nothing to show for weeks now. We did that first. After an amazing tour of a wildlife extravaganza we passed the bluff once again. Boom here they were in numbers! We watched as they gathered mud and was instantly building their nest! We watched this so close that we could literally see them pushing their little beaks full of mud onto the bluff. Nearly flying through our canopy was as close as you can ever get to such a magnificent sight! They were loud and full of life from their long journey to the White River. Al and Yolanda took a break from the rat race and melted away in nature here on the White River in Northwest Arkansas. Could not have asked for a more beautiful couple. Al was witty, smart and good looking just like me! Lol! After all we have the same name. LOL! A brother from another mother. Yolanda was simply a doll to take around on such a pretty day. Wildlife was bountiful and so was the peace and tranquility of Mother Nature here on Beaver Lake. Pics by Captain Al.
