Once reduced to just 27 birds in the wild, California condors are now making a remarkable comeback thanks to decades of conservation efforts. Spotting one in Zion is an unforgettable experience.

Zion Guru Trail Series: Many Pools

A short hike with a big payoff 🥹

Many Pools is tucked away on the east side of Zion, where slickrock, sandstone, and seasonal pools come together to create one of the park’s quieter little gems.

After a storm, the pools can fill up and reflect the surrounding cliffs, making the landscape feel completely different than it does on a dry day.

🥾 Short hike (2.1 miles)
🏜️ East Zion
💧 Seasonal pools
✨ A little off the beaten path

Another trail worth adding to your Zion list.

POV: you wake up to see this: towering sandstone walls glowing from the morning sun in Zion National park.

The stunning red west Navajo sandstone glows pink during the sunrise.

If you find yourself hiking the short 1 mile trail called, Canyon Overlook you get a perfect canyon view of this glow.

Save this post you remember Canton Overlook for the perfect Zion Sunrise spot!

⚠️ Flash Floods in The Narrows ⚠️

One of the biggest dangers when hiking The Narrows in Zion National Park is flash flooding. Because you’re hiking through a narrow slot canyon, water can rise quickly, and a storm miles upstream can create dangerous conditions even when the sky above you looks clear.

🌧️ Be especially cautious during monsoon season, typically July through September. This is when afternoon thunderstorms are more common in southern Utah, increasing the risk of sudden flash floods.
Before entering The Narrows: 🥾 Check the weather AND Zion’s flash-flood forecast

⛈️ Avoid the canyon when storms or flash flooding are possible

👀 Watch for rising or suddenly muddy water, floating debris, or a stronger current

👂 Pay attention to unusual roaring sounds coming from upstream

🏃 If water begins rising, seek higher ground immediately! Don’t wait to see if conditions improve. And remember: blue skies above you don’t necessarily mean you’re in the clear.

⛈️ A storm upstream can quickly turn The Narrows into a dangerous place.

Respect the canyon, watch the weather, and when in doubt—do not enter. 🚫
