Monsoon season is just around the corner. In the southwest US, it generally begins between
June 15- September 30.

What is a monsoon? Monsoons in the southwest are seasonal weather patterns. They bring in an increase of thunderstorms and rainfall during the summer season.

Narrow canyons, and washes are particularly susceptible to flash floods during the monsoon season. Rain can quickly funnel into these areas creating dangerous and rapidly rising water levels called flash floods.

It’s important to keep in mind that even if it’s not actively raining where you’re at, it could be raining further up the canyon.

It’s best to be prepared for the worst. Always bring extra water, snacks, warm layers/emergency blanket and a headlamp in the extreme case you are stuck in a canyon waiting for the water to recede.

*when hiking the Zion Narrows, extra water is recommended. The Virgin river contains a toxic Cyanobacteria that cannot be filtered out.

The narrows is about 60% water and 40% land. If you’ve never done a hike through a river, it can definitely feel overwhelming to plan accordingly!!

One of the most common questions we get at Zion guru is;
where do we put our phones and how do we keep our belongings dry?

While some people think they can limit the things they bring, somethings you won’t want to forget.

This hike is an all day adventure for most.
That means you need water to stay hydrated and food to reenergize.
Extra layers just in case you get wet (colder seasons) or layers that you’ve already take off (shoulder season).
You definitely won’t want to miss a photo opportunity, so bringing your phone or a camera is a must.

Sure a regular bag will work! Till you fall in! 😎
because eventually most of us do. Even with our trusty hiking stick.

$16 for our 20L dry bag is way better than $1000 for a new iPhone 🤷‍♀️

Going with a big group??

One person carry’s a backpack with water and things you really don’t mind getting wet, and another carry’s the dry bag with all the important items you want to make sure stay dry.

We are currently hiring adventure outfitters. This role is perfect for people who love people. As an outfitter, you will help visitors collect the equipment they need to have a fun, successful, and stress free trip into Zion National Park.

Your day could be spent fitting people into boots and bibs while describing the beauty and reality of the Narrows. The next day, you might be stationed in our e-bike area, helping visitors feel confident using the bikes and leaving them feeling knowledgeable navigating and of park rules and regulations.

We also have a retail area where you might be helping visitors pick out the best clothing or accessories from brands like Rab, Ortovox, FreeFly, Camelbak, and Altra!
