MSC Seascape - Day 3 - Gala Dinner

Our 3rd day at sea brought the Gala Dinner, otherwise known as Formal Night. This sailing only had 1 formal night as opposed to the 2 I am used to on other 7 night sailings. As always, eating in the main dining room and dressing up are only one option for dinner, but it's personally my favorite! My family loves dressing up in fancy clothes (my sweet son wore a suit by choice) so we always go all out for this night.

For the appetizer tonight, my son ordered the Lobster Bisque and a Caesar salad while I tried the Eggplant Parmigiana and Lobster Bisque. The Eggplant was amazing and I wish I had ordered a 2nd one. Both of us were disappointed in the Lobster Bisque. We felt the one we had on our last Royal Caribbean cruise was much better. Personally, I have a very high bar when it comes to Lobster Bisque because the Different Pointe of View restaurant in Phoenix, AZ, where I used to work, made the best Lobster Bisque you have ever tasted and I haven't found anything even remotely close in all these years.

Moving on..... the most popular part of the Gala Dinner is always the lobster tail. This is pretty standard on any cruise. This is not an additional charge during the regular dining so many people make sure not to miss it. We both ordered the Du of Broiled Lobster Tail & Grilled Jumbo Shrimp.

Unfortunately, as was my previous experience with MSC, I was not impressed with the lobster. It was very tough and extremely small. My son wasn't impressed either. The shrimp was good. The green pea risotto is personally not a favorite of mine as it has a very strong pea flavor. I now know to order the Filet Mignon next time I am on MSC!

For dessert, I had the Royal Cake and my son had the same dessert as the previous nights. The Royal Cake was very good and a great way to end the meal.

MSC Seascape Dinner - Day 2

Continuing with the dinners we had on the ship a few weeks ago, welcome to our first full day at sea and our 2nd dinner in the main dining room. The theme was "Caribbean Dinner" and the dinner themes usually match activities that are going on later in the evening on the ship. This night was a "Tropical Night" theme party. We used these themes to plan our outfits for dinner each night which we could then wear to the parties.

For this dinner, my son ordered Shrimp Cocktail and a Caesar Salad (which we completely forgot to take a photo of the entire sailing!) for his starters, the Pennette Pasta for dinner and he returned to Grandma's Chocolate Cake for dessert (see photos on yesterday's post). The pasta was one of the options that is offered every night and was not special to that evening's menu. He enjoyed everything he ordered.

I ordered the Callaloo, Spinach & Artichoke Dip, the Mojo-Marinated Grilled Pork Chop, and the Key Lime Pie. The dip was absolutely amazing and I learned that Callaloo is a leaf found in the Caribbean. The pork chop was very good and the sauce was amazing. I don't know that I have ever met a Key Lime Pie I didn't like and this one did not disappoint!

Let's talk dinner on the MSC Seascape a few weeks ago! We ate all of our dinners in the main dining room. The main dining room is included in your basic fare and unless you order one of the upgrades, it doesn't cost a single extra cent. They serve 3/4 course meals every night and while the menu changes daily, there are some items that are on there every night.

You can order more than 1 starter and dessert if you would like. Any additional entrees would have an additional cost. We did not have any dietary restrictions between the two of us, but the cruise line handles these very well and we learned on our behind the scenes tour there is 1 person in the kitchen who is fully responsible for making sure everyone has something to eat and keeps all the packaging to ensure that there are no issues.

The menus can be found in the app and/or the QR code at the table. They did have a few paper menus if people needed them. I have included our menu for Night 1 below along with photos of what we ordered.

My son started with the Salmon Poke Bowl and a Greek Salad. He thought the Poke Bowl was so good he ended up ordering a second one! His entree was the New York Strip with chimichurri and his dessert was Grandma's Chocolate Cake.

I ordered the Greek Salad and Fire-Roasted Tomato Cream Soup, the Prime Rib, and the same dessert.

He loved everything he ordered (especially the Salmon Poke Bowl which I heard about ALL week!) He said the steak was delicious with the chimichurri sauce. My salad was great, but I didn't love the soup. The Prime Rib was very good. Not spectacular, but very good. The broccoli was some of the best I have ever had. We both liked the dessert.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about dining on this sailing or any other cruise. So many people don't understand how it all works and are afraid to ask.

Are you someone who eats in the main dining room daily or do you mix it up? I love the main dining room but always end up for a snack at the buffet a few hours later!

Taking a Windstar Mystery Cruise is definitely on my bucket list! Are you brave enough to know where you are departing from and ending your sailing, but don't know what ports you are visiting??? At least two of the ports along the route will be places that Windstar has never visited before!
