Warning, rant incoming: I just wanted to make a post related to something I saw earlier on my personal account. I saw it on there because there is only one person who I have blocked on my business account... And now my personal account also 😂

As someone with a PhD in Data Science, I don't like the idea of "this is likely who did this" or "I've seen more trash". What I like are numbers. And I have some to share. In the 4 years we have rented, we have had over 250 unique guests.

In these four years, thankfully we have only had 3 guests trash our place. The one time we found our rental trashed and had to call the police because there was actual drugs, drug paraphernalia, and used narcan? Locals. The damages in the photos? Locals. In all of my years in business, we have had ZERO damages or excessive trash left by trail riders. In fact, I have seen trail riders pick up trash from the side of the road and put it in the garbage cans at our rentals multiple times.

We greatly appreciate the trail riders. Every single one I have met has been respectful, courteous, and I even call a few of them friends now. Please do not let those who are misinformed discourage you from visiting our beautiful state.

My workday today looked a little different than my normal day of teaching.

Today at the University of Charleston, we participated in Labor of Love, an annual day of community service where faculty, staff, and students give back to the community.

This year, my department put together bags to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. It was a great way to spend the day doing something meaningful and helping others.
