Go Mexico! 🇲🇽 So exciting to see them making huge strides against Sargassum!

🇲🇽 Mexico is taking a new approach to one of the Caribbean’s biggest environmental challenges by investing billions of pesos in a large-scale effort to stop sargassum before it reaches its beaches.

The new strategy includes deploying 13 specialized vessels—including 11 sargassum collection ships, an ocean-going vessel, and an amphibious collector—along with 18 smaller boats, 16 kilometers (10 miles) of floating barriers, satellite monitoring, and permanent response teams.

Rather than waiting for the seaweed to wash ashore, the ships are designed to intercept and collect it at sea, helping protect popular destinations such as Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Puerto Morelos, and Mahahual.

The project also aims to give the collected sargassum a second life by converting it into construction materials, biofuels, and other industrial products, turning an environmental problem into a valuable resource.

Officials hope the initiative will reduce the impact of record-breaking sargassum blooms while protecting the region’s beaches, marine ecosystems, and tourism industry. 🇲🇽🌊

It’s National Tequila Day - time to celebrate one of Mexico’s most iconic spirits. True tequila can only be made in specific regions of Mexico, primarily in the state of Jalisco, and must come from the blue agave plant.

While the heart of tequila production is inland, you’ll find it proudly poured all across the Mexican Caribbean - from beach bars in Playa del Carmen to luxury hotels in Cancun.

What is your favorite tequila based drink?

Dolphins use an advanced form of natural sonar called echolocation, sending out high-frequency sound waves to explore the world around them. Much like a medical ultrasound, these sound waves can travel through soft tissue, allowing dolphins to detect the shape of a developing baby and even distinguish both the mother's and the baby's heartbeats.

Although dolphins may pay extra attention to pregnant women, scientists say this is most likely driven by curiosity rather than affection. Their echolocation simply detects something unusual and fascinating, prompting them to investigate.

Even so, marine experts advise pregnant women not to swim with dolphins, as they are powerful wild animals whose behavior can be unpredictable. What remains truly remarkable is that dolphins can perceive both heartbeats through sound alone.

Today we’re raising a glass to a classic - it’s National Piña Colada Day. While the drink itself was born in Puerto Rico, there’s no denying how good it tastes with your toes in the sand in Mexico.
